Hockeytube.net talks to #8 Paul De Jersey with the Prince George Spruce Kings. An impressive story as De Jersey becomes one of the top scorers in the BCHL in 2011-12. He also talks about committing to Providence and another round of '90 Seconds.'

Thanks to Coach Dave Dupas and Paul De Jersey for taking time out.
Plus special thanks to Ron Gallo for helping set up the interviews.

Paul De Jersey

The question, can he play defense? Providence is weak in that department. Great school, great education but lacking on the ice. Congrats to him

If tonight was any indication, DeJersey has no clue about defense. Scored a pretty one, gave Penticton 3 the other ways trying to beat 5 guys 1 at the blueline

Was also at the game. He was terrrible in my opinion. Floated most of the night and you are right, no idea about defense. I will say in his defense that Penticton has some very good players (obviously) and this may have contributed to his ineffectiveness.

De Jersey is about to lose the scoring title tonight.
There will be a Vee, if not two, pass him. He didn't get a point the last three trips to Penticton.
They will shut him down one last time.

Or maybe this will happen.........

March 10 2012, 7:22 PM

Maybe the Vees will "sacrifice" their winning streak and lose tonight to PG. That way, if Chilliwhack wins both of their remaining two games against Westside and Trail, Penticton won't have to travel up to PG in the semi-finals.

Paul DeJersy BCHL Scoring Champion

March 10 2012, 9:56 PM

He may lack a little defensivly. But we'll still take him. We got the best defense in the league to back him.

Speaking of Defense

Giving up 10 goals in the last 2 games, not very championship like.

10 goals without our #1 goalie in net for either game and without our top 2 Defenceman (probably the best d-pairing in the league) playing today's game.

Congrats to Prince George for ending the Streak. You have a hell of a team this year and savior this win for as long as you can. However, I wish you the best of luck of beating the Vees in a best of 7 IF you can get by Merritt in the first round. I just don't see it happening with the Vees dressing their full line-up.

Re: 5-2 Win

March 10 2012, 10:34 PM

Other than the first 10min of the 2nd period, the Sprucekings really dominated this game. The shots were 14-7 after 1st. The Vees scored on thier only chance. After the 10min mark of the 2nd they couldn't get any real sustained presure at all in the Kings end of the rink. It really wouldn't matter who was in net for them.

Kinda funny how things work out. I spoke to someone last week about this senario for the playoffs, and how PG probably needed a win to secure 3rd spot. Or to put it another way ,the Vees needed a loss to avoid another road trip to PG. We know how teams love that trip.So i guess it works out for those teams. Not so sure the Chiefs will be too happy.

re 5-2 win

March 11 2012, 4:08 PM

Can some one explain to me as to why a loss to pg would prevent them from going to pg

That's why they play the games, if the Vees players have the same attitude as some of their fans, they won't much.

De Jersey takes scoring crown

March 12 2012, 3:19 PM

12 Mar 2012 The Prince George CitizenSheri LAMBCitizen staff

Paul De Jersey was a man on a mission for the Prince George Spruce Kings on the weekend.

The 19 year old was determined to fend off Penticton Vees’ Joey Benik and Mario Lucia to win the British Columbia Hockey League scoring title, while helping the Kings’ end the Coliseum visitors’ 42 consecutive game win streak.

De Jersey and the Kings accomplished both tasks with Saturday’s 5-2 win and also secured third place in the Interior Conference.

“It’s incredible,” said De Jersey, who finished the season with 98 points – two points ahead of Benik – after collecting three assists in the Kings’ final regular season game. “It’s a surreal feeling. I could never have imagined it.

“I gave everything I had tonight,” he added. “Every shift I went as hard as I possibly could, just hoping for some goals and also some luck. Those guys I was playing against were unbelievable. I’m just really grateful.”

With 41 goals De Jersey ended the season one short of Lucia, who tied his Vees’ teammate Bryce Gervais with 42. Lucia ended the season with 93 points after notching a hat trick in Friday’s 8-5 win over the Kings.
Kings’ head coach Dave Dupas said it was nice to see De Jersey find success against a team he had difficulties against this season.

The four-point weekend also saw De Jersey break out of an eightgame goal-scoring drought when he opened the scoring Friday with a shorthanded marker.

“He’s been struggling lately but this weekend he’s been playing like the Paul De Jersey of earlier in the season,” said Dupas. “He was very hard to stop here tonight. We’re all proud of him for doing it.

“He knew he had to outplay them this weekend if we wanted the title and that’s what he did,” he added. “He deserved it.”

Michael Colantone finished the season third in Kings’ scoring with 73 points, after scoring a pair of goals in the 5-2 win to give him 33 this season, while Jujhar Khaira added an assist, giving him 79 points.

When De Jersey isn’t playing along side Colantone and Khaira he plays with rookie Tyson Witala, who has enjoyed the benefits of playing with such a prolific scorer.

“He’s a real skilled player,” said Witala. “I just have to get open for him. He does pretty much everything out there.”
