Of all the stuff that could have happened with nearly 40 players on the ice, most was avoided. It could have been FAR FAR worse. It was also the most emotional game I've seen in a long time.

The most elucidating thing the video showed (and perhaps is why it was taken down) is irrevocable proof of a Chiefs Assistant Coach throwing a stick "Javelin-style" at someone in the Grizzlies tunnel.

It looked bad. Of all the things that happened that night, that was the worse if you ask me. And I didn't see that until the video.

West Shore RCMP are investigating an alleged assault of a Victoria Grizzlies player after an incident near the end of a B.C. Hockey League game on Saturday night at Bear Mountain Arena.

Grizzlies defenceman Chris Albertini filed a complaint with the West Shore RCMP alleging Chilliwack Chiefs assistant coach Brandon Fleenor flung a hockey stick at him, striking him in the side of his head.

Albertini, who was not in the lineup that evening, was between the benches when tempers flared in the game’s last minute.

“I reported it to the police, but nothing has officially come of it. I have filed a complaint,” Albertini said. “There is no room for that in hockey, for a coach to lose his temper like that.”

West Shore RCMP spokeswoman Kathy Rochlitz confirmed Thursday that police are in the “initial stages of an investigation.”

Albertini, a 20-year-old native of Hampton, Ont., admitted to “chirping” at the Chilliwack bench late in the game. He said he was struck as Fleenor flung the stick at him in a “spear-fishing” motion.

The events, which took place with roughly 10 seconds remaining in the game, began a chain reaction of hostility between the players, who were violently pushing on the glass that separates the visitors’ bench from the hosts.

The incident was caught on tape by Grizzlies’ videographer Roy Anthonisen, who posted it online. The video has since been taken down.

During the final moments of the Jan. 12 game, Grizzlies general manager and head coach Bill Bestwick left the bench to attempt to gain control of his players. He was given a game misconduct at the time.

At the final whistle, a brawl erupted on the ice.

A number of players from both teams are facing suspensions, announced Thursday.

I do agree that Fleenor was definitely wrong in what he did.

I do wonder why a player who wasn't playing was standing between the benches during the game though.

Why is a player not in the line-up standing between the benches chirping at the other team. Don't get me wrong. throwing the stick was dumb and should get him suspended, but the guy should not have been there in the first place.

You chief fans are messed up. You don't think throwining a stick between 2 pieces of 8ft glass that seperates a 20 yr old hockey player and a coach is wromg? There was no way Albertini was going to get through or over that glass. TOTALLY out of line, well maybe not for a hillbilly pond hockey team like Harvey has. GIVE YOUR HEADS A SHAKE!

I guess you skipped the parts where both of us said that what Fleenor did was wrong.

Give our heads a shake,take your own advice. We both say what Fleenor did was wrong. How about you agree that a player not in the game should not be where he was and especially should not be engaged at all with the opposition bench which he admits doing.

Makes me wonder what "agreeing" on this message board is going to accomplish? 2 wrongs still don't make a right....

Gee, nobody and what I mean by "nobody" is the people that can make a positive change, management of each organization, or the bchl big wigs themselves, Cannot see the consistent problem or maybe they do not care?
The common and consistent problem "IS" weather it be fans in area's they have no business being or now it's scratched players of the game that have no business being there, are causing "news worthy?" commotions...

But since the NHL is starting this Saturday, maybe this scratched player that was chirping the other team got paid extra to do this and cause "excitement" to try and keep the fans here in the bchl instead of going back to the nhl?... The possibilities are endless when speculation is the answer!!! LOL

Watched the video and he didn't javelin, he eyed up his target and speared the stick through the space. Throwing it and its squeaks through is one thing but this guy lined it up and guided it. I don't know how your league looks upon it but hockeycanada and the police will be a completely different issue. I hear the guy is a good guy, but he is in big trouble.
