Response to Re: just don't get it

No one's advocating immigrants here stop playing
cricket or that the most talented players not be selected for national teams!! What I'm saying is the
CCA has to seriously think about a more comprehensive, longterm, development plan that includes an outreach
program to mainstream Canadians, something they've never done.
Of course this is going to take a lot of work and will take a long time to produce results--which in
why it'll probably never happen since it's so much easier for the CCA to work with people who already know and play the game. To repeat: the immigrant community
may get Canada into senior & junior WCs but that's
all the further we're going to go. And as the other
associate members improve it'll be even harder to do
this. And by the way, this belief that the kids of
immigrants will continue cricket is a common fallacy.
Immigrant customs are usually kept up by the first
and second generations, but no later. I'm afraid you're mistaken if you think the immigrant kids who are born and bred here in Canada (and I mean kids who are entirely raised in Canada, not the ones who may be born
here and go back to live in India for ten years) will
take up cricket. Kids play the
sports of their peer group and that means baseball,
ice hockey, etc. Few will want anything
to do with cricket or at least not of their own free
choice.
