Happy to do it

We only update the site about every three months or so. Thanks for your patience. And thank you for preserving and sharing that information.

It's important to document these cemeteries. Since we started this project about seven years ago, I have already noticed some old hand-hewn, sandstone markers weathering away so much you can't read them now. I'm glad we got the data preserved before it was too late.

Info Tid Bit

Hopson Cemetery

June 29 2007, 6:36 AM

I don't know if you all are aware of this, but here is a little tid bit of info on the Hopson Cemetary on Skeetrock:

Elve (Evie) Hopson was hung in Wise County for the murder of a man during a hen stealing. He proclaimed his innocence until the very end. It wasn't until later that one of the men who was with him confessed of the murder on his death bed. Mr. Hopson was buried in the Hopson Cemetery behind the homeplace of Lee & Francian (sp?) Mullins.

My grandfather told me this story before he died. My husband & I went and found the grave and was able to take my grandfather to see it (when he was in good health). I am so glad I was able to do this with him before he passed on.

Here is a link if anyone is interested. It is under the title "Innocent Man Hung"
