| from my home town in haysi and i read this board and i have to say i have never been so ashamed to see what has been posted about people. You all live in a small community and have to see each other.I have to say when people away from here read these posts they sure will not want to come to Dickenson County to live and maybe not to visit. It really bothers me that you have nothing better to do with your time.I am sure there are a lot of people in the county that could use some help with something be useful. |

to name just 2, are dedicating much of their precious time to try and turn the old system in the county around by providing vital information so that the electorate can make a good, informed decision. Many of the posters on this board are trying to (for the first time in the history of the county) demand accountability from our officials and candidates. I am sorry to have to disagree with your opinion. |

Thank you for the acknowledgment Allison. However, the credit really goes to everyone who is collaborating in this effort and contributing inspiration, encouragement, ideas, questions, constructive criticism, etc. (yourself included).
I admit that the darker side of human nature we see manifest here from time to time can be frustrating and disheartening. However, the internet is a powerful tool for instigating social change and fueling grass roots movements. This and other local forums play a vital role in allowing members of our community to share ideas and promote projects that might not have existed otherwise . For example, without these forums, the candlelight memorial held in Haysi for victims of the Virginia Tech shootings would not have taken place.
Though the voice of reason may at times seem to be drowning amidst the nastier posts we see, with the use of these forums we have in fact achieved good things in the past, and we will continue to do so in the future. |

I have to say that I don't think anyone who doesn't live in Dickenson Co or used to reads these. Maybe a small handful (count them on your hands) but I don't think that's a rational concern.
However, I will agree with you that sometimes these forums can get down right shameful the way others ride one another about the smallest stuff. | |
