when it was just a lot and having Carlie Gene run you off(lol). The video barn between Haysi and Sandlick, and of course "stripjob parties". Kids now days missed out on a lot.
The only band i can think of right now is the Saint James Infirmary..They graduated in 1969 it was with Mark Ownens ,Randy Honaker,Robert Good,,and maybe Ronnie Perrigan...They used to play at a lot of the sock hops at Haysi High on Friday night
I seem to recall a band named "Dealer" back then that was pretty popular locally and they could have been from Buchanan County possibly. I believe that they recorded a album because I remember one of my relatives having it on 8-track.
Oh Yes, i remember the mind bender very well, went there every saturday night. I loved dancing the night away.I loved to dance and never lacked having a good partner.
Yep i remember the "buster burgers" but i used to go there for thier liquid refreshment..back then you could get a six pack to go for 1.50,,25 cents per can..
Thats very possible, sometimes i didn't know the names of ppl i danced with, what yr's were you there? I want put any names on here as some of them are preacher's now and im a Christian, but we can't control our memories, we just don't let them control us.
Some of my favorite memories are cruising town or listening to the WECL radio station out of Elkhorn City, KY. They had a DJ that went by the name of "Dr. Don". He had a real deep voice and played rock and roll when "rock and roll was rock and roll".
were at WECL and married. Their union didn't last too long. Dr. Don is still at it. He works for WPRG TV at Harold, KY. He is married to a little gal from Vietnam. She owns a nail shop and does some of the doctor's wives' nails.
Dr. Don used to play "Love Hurts" for me all the time. I married a deejay from that station in 1976...."Rockin' Ray". He used to do all the girls basketball games in Haysi for the radio. He passed in 1985.
Make the cruise around the circle at town hall, up to the pharmacy, back down, up to Johnny Gregs, then maybe up around the funeral home, down to splashdamn, cross the river to a little island in the middle a the lower bottom, then across the bridge at the coal temple if I got lucky (lol). All this while listening to some Hank, Lonesome George, and a few pony buds. Ahh the days...
Do any on remember skating and dancing to any of these songs

Skating to Little Red Riding Hood at the Haysi skating rink and watching Terry O'quinn show off..sorry Terry ,,I hope you are doing good these days LOL
Dancing to "The Midnight Hour", and "Knock on Wood" at the sock hops at the Haysi High, and of course "Johnny B Good" and slow dancing to ,,"Dont Let The Sun Catch you Crying"
I remember getting lit up before the dances at the HS (just enough so that the teachers wouldn't notice)and dancing to Def Leopard and would alwyas hit the floor when I heard Billy Idols "Mony Mony". Now Steffenwolf and Johnny B Good was ancient.
Yes we r getting older, but we still have the memories of our youth and no one can take them away. Please remember we'll always be young at heart. I think we were wiser in the OLDEN days that kids are now, we didn't know much about drugs, in fact we rarely ever heard of anything except maybe a little POT and most of us didn't even use that, we would drink a beer or 2 and just dance and have good clean fun. I sure wish it was as simple today, maybe we wouldn't have lost so many of our young men and women to die fr an overdose.
Yep! You are right Bartlick Gal,,the worst we got into would have been maybe a little moonshine..Moonshine used to be what people made a living making, because they had no other job, or for extra income to get by ,..But now its dangerous drugs that people try to make a living by pushing..Just shows how generations can change..

To the ones that dont go back as far as myself and some others ,,you should download the song 'Knock on Wood" by Wilson Pickett and try it out ..that is if you are not familiar with it and see what us old folks at Haysi used to dance to ..This song just makes your body move in a dance motion just to listen to it,you just cant help to move with the song.. LOL
I was not sure i remembered "Aint too proud to beg" by the Temptations so i downloaded it and played it and it all came back to me ,,I remember it now ,,its a great song,, Thanks for reminding me of it...
I talk to my daughter a lot of the old days in Haysi ,,she is 30 years old now...There used to be so much to do around Haysi,,it sure was great times ,,On Friday night my friends and I would go to the sock hop at the Haysi High ,then we would all gather at the M&M drivein ,,also known as the valley drivein in Haysi and hang out. Then on saturday night we would go to either the Mind Benders or the Outer Limits ,one was up Prater creek and the other was at Bartlick,,sometimes we would go to the pink room also,,and other times we would go to the Mullins theater at clintwook and meet up with some clintwook folks and hangout ..Then On sunday to the skating rink down at Splashdam..We always had a full schedule on the weekends ..What do the young folks do now at Haysi ,,there is not much to do that i am aware of?
