Drugs – from Gods perspective

I thought it would be interesting to write what God shows us in the Bible about drug use – more specifically drug use at the end of days and in the tribulation. What if God talks about pills in the Bible? What if he even named a specific drug? See below for a Greek Word Study.

Take this text from Revelation 6-20:21
20And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

This scripture deals with events of the 6th plague that is poured out during the 7 year tribulation. We can see that there will be 5 major sins at the end of days. See below what they are – this taken from Revelation 6-20:21
1) Idol worship
a. Not so prevalent in America, but in nations like India, there people worship all kinds of different idols.

2) Murder
a. As if murder wasn’t increasing worldwide, just consider the millions of innocent babies that have been murdered in the past 30 years. Liberals might call this abortion, but people always like to put nice names on sins. For example, Doesn’t Abortion sound better than murder? Doesn’t an affair sound better than adultery? Doesn’t an alternative life style sound better than homosexual – which God considers an abomination?

3) Fornication
a. There is a difference between Fornication and Adultery. While they are all considered sexual immorality, Fornication deals more with two unmarried people, while Adultery is with a married people. Both these sins are considered normal in American culture today.

4) Thefts
a. This one is too easy.

5) Sorceries
a. This is the one I want to elaborate on. See Below

When someone talks about sorcery most people think about witches or some Harry Potter movie – which is an elementary course on demons. The fact is, when God talked about Sorcery in the Book of Revelation, he was not talking about witchcraft at all. We know that the New Testament part of the Bible is written in the Greek language – so wouldn’t it make sense to look up the words in the language that it was written in to see the real meaning?
Let’s look up the word Sorcery and see what God says about it.
pharmakeia far-mak-i'-ah from 5332; medication ("pharmacy"),

So, we see the Greek word for Sorcery is Pharmakeia, where we get our English word Pharmacy. So, what God is saying is that at the end of days, drug use is going to be one of the last day’s major sins.

If that wasn’t enough, check out another word study in Luke 21

Luke 21-34-36

34And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (surfeiting means overindulgence), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. 35For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

This is the text in Luke where Jesus was talking about things that were going to happen at the end of days. So to summarize what Jesus said in the verse above, Jesus was saying “Towards the end, make sure that you are not drunk and overindulging yourself so the day takes you unaware.”

Let us see what the word drunk means in Greek.
methuo meth-oo'-o from another form of 3178; to drink to intoxication, i.e. get drunk:--drink well, make (be) drunk(-en).

Notice the pronunciation “Metho.” Has anybody heard about Methodone? Seems like that’s the craze these days. Hint Hint!!!

Just thought people might want to know Jesus is coming back for his Church very very soon, and he gave us a warning saying that drug use is going to be at a high when he does. You can do the math. He wants you to repent now and serve him that you may be spared from the tribulation that is soon coming upon the world. The Potter can put you back together again. Keeps your wicks trimmed and burning!

I agree. Very good and informative post. What especially resonates with me in the post is where it is mentioned about nice sounding names being used in place of sinful acts such as homosexuality and the murdering of an unborn child. Who in the world came up with "alternative lifestyle"?...lol. Call it what it is.
