He is 80 plus years old. He is obviously in declining health, as he is becoming quite shaky. I don’t know it for a fact, but I have been told that he is not able to focus as well as he once did at the meetings. As a concerned voter of the Ervinton District, I wonder if he will physically be able to serve another four year term as a school board member. I think we, the voters, should consider Mr. Nickles. We at least would have some say in who holds the position. If Mr. Patton becomes incapacitated or worse, a replacement would be picked by the other board members and there is no telling who we would get. I believe Mr. Nickles would do a good job and is worthy of the voters consideration.
It is quite obvious as to what you are trying to do and who is involved in writing such a ridculous piece of trash. Mr. Patton may be eighty, but so what? He still has a very sharp mind.
Don't you dare try to slander Mr. Patton by spreading such gossip about such a man of strong character and experience, and yes, I am one of his daughters, before you sling that out on the board. Is there a law that says you cannot be involved in service to your community just because of a person's age. For all of those who wish Mr. Patton off the board, I assure you there are just as many or more that want him to remain.
Way to go Pam. I've always been a Daddy's girl and would stick up for him at all cost. I see nothing wrong with you doing the same when it comes to your Dad.
I appreciate that. I am not only speaking as a daughter, but someone who is so tired of always having to see my family's name run through the mud for no apparent reason. Dad and Mom are good, honest, hard-working people who would give someone the shirt off of their backs, and all we have had to listen to is having it slung in our facesbecause their children worked for the school system. Let me say something, my parents both worked to put us through college, and we were employed long before Dad was elected to the School Board. We had just as much right to be in the system as all of the other family members who had a member employed as a princpal, or placed on various boards. Some family members have been employed over the years in the same schools, and nothing was said about that.
I love my Dad, and know how humble he is when trying to do the right thing. Nothing anyone will post after this will affect me, because I know how much he cares about this county. Dad always tells us as long as you are doing the right thing, you can't worry about what people might say.
I sincerely apologize for upsetting you and nowise intended to slander your daddy. I thought I was raising a legitimate question as I had heard this commented on by several people lately. None of us can live forever no matter who we are. The main most important thing is to make our peace calling and election sure. (Hmm, maybe I shouldn't mention election) Anyway, back to what I was saying. We will all stand before the same judge at the judgment bar and give an account. May the Good Lord help us all to be ready. May He also help the right people be chosen to represent us in our governing bodies as they make decisions for us.
I think you misunderstood me. I was not apologizing for my dad, and understand all too well standing at judgement, so please do not try to turn this around.
Maybe, if we are concerned about standing at judgement, then we should not repeat gossip, and what other people might say. I would be interested in knowing who you are. I had no reason to hide my identity.
While Mr. Patton is perhaps showing his age a bit, there is noting wrong with that... I dare say we all do the same thing. I will say that he has questioned many things that go on at the school board office that other school board members just let pass. It is unbelievable how much money was spent last June before the fiscal year ended and Mr. Patton was the only one that questioned and complained about it. Mr. Patton has also been more supportive of teachers in general than most of the others on the board.
I believe that there are a couple of others on the board that we would be better off without than Mr. Patton - the good Drs. for 2. They voted against the raise that was put to vote a few months ago claiming "the county couldn't afford it", but they could afford all of the other items that near a million dollars were spent on. New mowers for all the schools when the ones that were there worked fine, several pieces of maintenance equipment that are seldom used, and a $74,000 new dump truck when the old one could have been fixed with a motor from one of the old busses. The dump truck is seldom used. I would say near 20 new cars and trucks have been purchased over the last 3 years for the school system. Probably the dumbest item purchased was near a million dollars for new boilers for Ervinton High school. Why on earth would someone spend a million dollars on a building that they probably couldn't sell for $100,000?
BTW, I have heard that the school system also sent over $700,000 back to the board of supervisors. How about it Doctors? How can you possibly say the county can't afford a good salary for teachers but you can blow a couple of milliopn and send over $700,000 back to the board of supervisors????????
Those of you on Mr. Patton's back need to look at all of the others as well and not be listening to those at SES trying to gain control and trying to pull the wool of your eyes............right coach????????????????
I have known Mr.Patton all my life he is a great great man he has always been for his school and for the good of the county as a gruop he is the only man for the job
You need to get your facts right. Check your notes if you take any, or at least read the records. There is no million dollar boiler at Ervinton. The 2 docs do not make a majority. How can you blame them for what Mr Patton and his cronies have done? We know who you are!
LOL. I got a call telling me about this string and looked it up last night. As you can see by the time of this post I get up very early and, therefore also go to bed early. Earlier than the time of the post I believe I am getting credited with.
1st, I will say that I have expressed ***MOST*** of these items as my opinion when asked about the elections to MANY people (at least 3 yesterday and 1 couple that visited me Saturday while I was working on firewood as I had done ALL DAY - I went to bed really tired and early). As to my position, it has nothing to do with my opinons which I am intitled to.
While Mr. Patton and I have had issues, I still believe that he has done a decent job as far as what is seen up front and the items of record show a concern for employees and the school system in a fair manner for all. This is not an endorsement but a statement of opinion. I would assume that many have liked him and suported him for many years based on the time he has spent in county government. Behind the scenes, I know little about them or if they even exist. I look at the issues of record. The comments that I have been "quoted" as saying are fact including the boilers for Ervinton HS. They were ordered at a cost of around $750,000 (which does not include installation)and I do not know if they are here yet.
My comment about Mr. Patton were simply in his defense. He HAS been around for a long time and I just think he should be shown a little respect. I have heard some of what Mr. Nichols (not sure of spelling) has had to say at school board meetings and it has sounded pretty good, I have not talked to him at all but would like to. As to who I will vote for, my mind has not been made up yet and when I do decide it will be my private decision and not for this or any other forum.
As far as the Dr.s on the board, I was supportive of Ms. Askins getting the open position and she has brought more to the board in the way of professionalism than I have seen since I began going to the meetings. As far as her comments and vote on the raise (that story was in the paper), I was not happy with that. I know very little about Dr. Lyle except his comments of record and he does not say much. Most people speak well of him and some family members have known him for many, many years.
I also am not too sure what the "coach" comment means. Perhaps that could be a hint of who has used my comments.
If I have something to say, I will say it. If I say something, I will admit it.
If any of you want to talk to or about me, give me a call - I am not hard to find.
