Donation will create genealogy, local history area in new Haysi library
When the Haysi Public Library moves in to its new building, it will have a special area dedicated to genealogy and local history.
Jeanne Powers has generously donated $2,500 to the new library building project in memory of her mother, Negetha Gourley Powers.
The donation will be used to purchase genealogy and local history materials, including equipment and furnishings, to support a dedicated genealogy and local history area.
In addition, books will be purchased for the general library collection.
Negetha Gourley Powers was a community leader who was instrumental in the establishment of the Haysi Public Library in the early 1970s. She was also a dedicated and beloved educator in Dickenson County. A lifelong, avid reader, teaching and learning were special joys in her life.
Through the establishment of the Negetha Gourley Powers Genealogy and Local History Section in the Haysi Community Library, Mrs. Powers’ legacy will live on through readers and researchers who come to the library to learn about the history of Dickenson County and its people.
