The bible

January 15 2008 at 10:15 PM
mom of a good kid

My child and another student was reading their bible during free time in class at school today. I wont say which school. The teacher told them to put their bibles away because they might offend someone. Of all the nasty talk that goes on among students in class, my child gets in trouble for reading the bible. This is so sad. I want every christian that reads to pray for this teacher. (God knows his name) and pray for my daughter that she will have the strength to hold her head up and keep living for Jesus Christ. How lucky are we if this is the worst thing our teenagers do? I am so upset but I serve an awesome God and he is in charge of all things.

I hate that this has happened to your child, just explain to her that God warns of things like that. the devil works in all ways to discourage us.

Fight back---power to the people

You need to fight back. Don't let time pass without letting this be known everywhere. Go to the principle, the school board and confront the teacher. Let everybody know about this. If your child was on her own time at school she can read what she wants. This political correctness crap has got to stop. And most of all pray for the teacher.

I'm Behind You Mom . . .

January 16 2008, 12:31 AM

Listen, every religious group or sect in America has more freedom of speech and expression than Christians. Your daughter is being persecuted by this teacher for her faith. When I was in college at UVA Wise, I had a philosophy professor who was a professing agnostic. He required us to read books that were pagan at best. I was offended by this professor. When any of the Christian students would express an opinion, this professor would make fun of us or mock us. I know that as a result, many Christian students did not feel they could participate in class. I was determined to go to law school at a place where I could practice and profess my faith openly. Regent University was not acredited when I was in school there. The American Bar Association sent a committee to our school to determine whether there was academic freedom at our school. In other words, because it was a Christian school, the bar association wanted to make sure all students of different religions could freely express their opinions. I met with that committee and I told them that in college, I never felt I had academic freedom because of my faith, and that in America Christians ought to have a place of education where they are free to express themselves. Your daughter could have been reading any other book on her free time and it would have been fine. Listen, this teacher is threatened bu Christanity, just as my old college prfessor was. May your daughter STAND FIRM and if you or her need any information about protected free speech and expression please email me. God bless you and your daughter!

I agree with you to mom and maybe you need to tell this teacher that her/his attitude towards your daughter reading the bible on her free time offends you & your daughter.

this is sooo sad...

Well, Mom thankfully you've instilled the goodness and truth of God's word in your daughter. I agree with the other posters here, help her take it one step further so she can lead by example. Christians need to take a stand. I have a six year old who I encourage to witness to her friends in school every day. She's got in a habit of doodling on the back of her papers...I'm so proud when I see "Jesus Rocks" or little doodles of a Cross all over the place..I dread the day when and instance like yours happens but I know it's coming. Shame on that teacher.

re Allison

you may not remember me, we had some classes together at the high school. You are truly a good person,if i even needed an attorney, you would be my choice because i remember your parents and know you were raised right. In my opinion if my grandson wanted to read the bible at school and a teacher said rude things to him, believe you me i would be at that school the next day and i wouldn't stop there,i would take it all the way. we still have the right to religion and i admire any young person who practices it. Wouldn't this world be a better place if more ppl did? Remember to pray for the people who still believe in the old fashioned way.

God Bless You

January 16 2008, 12:21 PM

I just wanted to say God Bless You and your daughter. We need more children like her in school who are curious about God's Word. The Bible is not just for adults and more children should be reading it more actively.

On another note, you child needs to explain to her teacher that she does have the right to read the Bible in class if free time permits. Teachers, by law, are not allowed to begin religious discussions with students, but anything that the student initiates is supposed to be allowed and this includes reading the Bible. Tell her to keep carrying it with her and if she has free time in class, take it out and read it. If the teacher is offended, tell her to ask for the Principal. This is her right and no one should infringe upon it.

I have been in our schools, especially the high schools, and I have seen some of the stuff that kids are bringing to school to read and things they are looking at on the internet and nothing is ever said to them. If they have the right to look at and read questionable material then your child has the right to read her Bible in school.
