Want to say

I think that its really sad that another flower shop is being brought into haysi. There is enough there I do believe. I think the people doing hair need to stick to doing hair and leave the flower shops alone. I hear it will be called Haysi Floral, well wasnt there already a Haysi Floral there once? I'm confused, why not put something into haysi for all the younger people to enjoy, so they dont have to sit out by the streets at night in order to be with friends. Stop with the cloning, its getting old.

Hey anony

This shop is a private business to do whatever they want. If Pizza Hut, Little Ceasers, and Dominos want to put in another unwanted pizza parlor they can. If you want a youth center build one, they will come. BTW, I like flowers, they smell purty.

Just putting in my opinion

February 7 2008, 12:13 PM

I just think its sad that people focus on un-needed business's. But oh well, it will eventually go out of business. For example, Karens flower shop has bounced all over the place in haysi. The only flower shop that seems to have stayed in place has been Kountry Kottage and that really is a surprise. I dont care what gets put into haysi, i just think it should be something for the people in the town to enjoy, not saying you cant enjoy flowers, but well, they eventually die.

Re: Just putting in my opinion

I told my mom I would like to see a coffee shop put into Haysi. She argued that no one in Haysi would be willing to pay more than .99 for a cup of coffee. Up here you can't get a cup of coffee for less than $2.00.

What do you guys think about that? You could have pasteries and coffee. A meeting room in the back. NO SMOKING! I think it would be awesome.

That would be fun

February 7 2008, 12:27 PM

A coffee shop would be different and I think would do well. Because of alot of smokers in the county, I'm not sure about the no smoking, maybe seperate rooms. But the idea is great, because if you go into some places you usually see a group of people just standing around talking, why not give them a real place to sit down and have coffee and talk with friends. Great Idea.

the people that tried the one in clintwood.Did not last a year.In my opinion unless you are somewhere where there are a lot of people a small business will likely go under.Ask yourself how many people you know personally in haysi that will pay that much for coffee.

There was one in Wise

for a while (under two years I think) and of course Wise is a way bigger town than Haysi so I have to agree I don't think it would last long.

Someone else already tried a coffee shop remember? It was in the old Arrington Floral building. It didn't last long either. I tried to stop by several times but no one was ever there.

I just think.

February 7 2008, 2:36 PM

It doesnt even have to be a coffee shop, just something for the people, another flower shop is by far not what people need. But its worth the effort I suppose, all one can do is try. People in Dickenson country will most likely just put it down along with any and everybody else! As for the younger generation, its not their fault that they have nothing to do, look at the area, they have no where to hang out with their friends, thats why most of them are in trouble these days. The county is just a poor county and in order for any of the younger generation to become something other than a coal miner or a coal truck driver, they have to leave the county, or even the state for that matter! Thats really sad. The town will always be the same and nothing will ever change. But on a positive note, everyone knows everyone, on the negative, everyone knows or TRIES to know everyone elses business.

Opinions

Opinions WITHOUT knowledge!!!!

February 12 2008, 4:54 AM

Is like birds without wings...IT gets you nowhere but flapping around and makes you very obvious!!! Karen's Floral has only relocated basically one time...Thanks to the people that you obviously; either DO NOT know or the blanket of snow has not melted away; one! We all know how snowed they like for people to be...been there myself, along with many, many others...Finally, the snow melted and it was all crystal clear to many! Would any one be brainless enough to stick with anybody that begged and begged them to uproot their business to move in with them, telling them they would share expenses, come to find out the money that was given for the bills WAS NOT being applied on the bills AT ALL, this whole time they was going behind her back learning the ropes of the trade and once they got what was important to them; they was going behind her back setting up a business of their own, hinting to buy her out and when they was confronted about the whole mess...they denied it to the bitter sweet end, swearing off - lie; after lie; after lie...It's the boyfriends family! Why would you stand and look someone in the eye, and tell them such a lie when the truth was popping up from every direction, then stand and say I Love You, You are my friend..."That's why they all call me Mother Teressa" I don't lie, I don't talk about anybody, I don't gossip...Just how many people has been in their little "SAINT" shop and them not say something negative about somebody? I PROMISE you this, If ever you have exited their door, You have been their topic!!!
For each one's information, Kountry Kottage is basically a all occasion flower shop, Karen's Floral and Especially for you; is basically a gift shop...flower shop for special occasions and gifts for those who choose something lasting and a little more personal...I know that Karen's Floral offers tux and shoe rental for the CHILDREN to be able to have what they need for prom... Guess some people do think about the Children's needs! Does people not buy anybody gifts for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, holidays, and etc... I'm pretty sure that everybody don't have the same ideals for a gift and pretty sure these floral/gift shops don't offer the same gifts either... However, the new floral/gift shop offers hair coated flowers; if anyone would be interested...Guess we have went from dropping flower petals to hair petals!!! Couldn't imagine sitting in a funeral watching hair float from my flowers - That's gross!
For those of you that have been told that this shop is taking the funeral home business away from Kountry Kottage...That is so NOT TRUE...Someone was told that they had done business with the lady at Kountry Kottage for so long, that they had kind of looked out for one another over the years, It would not be right or fair for them to take anything away from her, besides; that is a decision that is really left for the family...I suppose it's only another one of their dreams...Is reality ever going to set in with these people? Why would anyone go around making false statements about something they would like to take place?

GREAT NEWS for the BREAKS

February 7 2008, 4:18 PM

And the Ralph Stanley Museum, not to mention the small shops there.
There have been bus tours in the past and I bet there will be a lot more now
with the Crooked Road Music Trail. Finally we have someone who cares enough to
promote Dickenson County. The more people the more money spent in our
county and the Gift Baskets will be one of the destinations for sure.

I never knew you went on a bus tour to shop, i have been on a tour bus the past 3 summers. The first to PA. second N.C.next back to PA. We didnt have time to shop, but i didnt pay big money to shop i went to see the sights. I have friends in New York that vist me every summer, they visit Ralph Stanley museum, breaks park. camp jacob. They just love to see the mountains. They always spend 2or3 nights in the breaks. If you have been on a tour bus you know you dont always stay close to what you went to see.We went to PA.to go to hershey park, the next day we drove 30 minutes from motel to go to sight and sound theater. So Wise isnt that far away. I started out to say if i was going shopping i would head out Bristol. Ralph Stanley museum has a great gift shop, i go in at least once a month to see what is new, and i live right here in good Clintwood.

Where is this flower shop going to be at? Who is opening it? I feel sorry for them unless they have a lot of money to waste, because Haysi is just not a good place for a business. Good Luck to them.

re flower shops

February 8 2008, 2:21 PM

I agree 100%, our young children have no place to even go to talk,if they stop anywhere they get run off by the owner's calling the town police and he has to do it although im sure he doesn't always want to. Haysi is nothing more than a joke, you can't buy a pair of shoes. tell me what we can purchase there? I'll tell you NOTHING, oh we can go in the Dollar General and get a few things and that place is the backbone of Haysi,it would be my guess that it just about supports the town. People who can travel to Food City go there because the quality of everything is so much better and fresher also they have a wide variety of everything you need in groceries.
The future of Haysi isn't looking any better,in fact until the Dollar General came there the older people who didn't have anyway of getting around unless they had children or a good neighbor who would shop for them. People you can't eat flowers,so why not invest in something that will bring in some money, heck some of you rich ppl put in a GYM, to work out in, some of the high school boys go to the field house, but what about the girls and other's who would like to work out(i know i sure do)but don't have the facilities to do it at home and gas costs too much to go to Clintwood. Well i guess i've said enough, but not nearly all that neeeds to be said. I need someone else's output here,so come on, help me out.

My opinion.

February 8 2008, 5:39 PM

The only damn flower shop that is needed in the town of haysi is the one by the funeral home, and thats only because you can get good business there. All of the others just go down under!

People be more creative. Our children will never become anything in this county unless a change is made. I know over half of us is broke and living paycheck to paycheck, but the town isnt going to do a thing about it. As far as people are concerned, if you dont like it, leave.

There are so many dirty little lies in the area. Along with clintwood, and the breaks. That park is a joke. *********** is a pervert and should be put away. I have never in my lifetime seen someone so sneaky! If i knew who to contact about the situation I would!! And for a woman to actually submit herself to this kind of situation is even worse. You never see the park change with all the money that it recieves. But you sure see his big house dont ya?

Instead of helping each other, people are against one another and causing more grief.

Not Hopeful

Re: re flower shops

February 8 2008, 6:33 PM

I for one like competition. So that means I am for the new Flower Shop opening up. Maybe with some competition, the price of the flowers will go down at the other shops. The flowers are very expensive.

Every time anyone tries to put in anything, the support from the people is not there though.

Question: Why are they no places in Haysi for teenagers to have fun? Answer: Not enough teenager support to keep a place running. And then, if somone opens up a place, it gets overrun by druggies. So decent people won't go there.

A long time ago there was plenty of good fun things to do in our little community. We had a skating rink, a place to go dance, and a movie theater. People are just not interested in that type of entertainment anymore. At least in our little town.

Our town will probably disolve in a few years. A ghost town in the making.

Re: re flower shops

A ghost town in the making is right.

But as far as competition goes, the reason flowers are so expensive is because the vendors are so expensive and i mean in a town like this, they have to make money. But the owners of the new flower shop will see for themselves. You have to have money, to make money.

No there isnt enough support for new business's, because the people dont want change. They stick with who they're use to, and where they get the best business.

The teens do support a place for them to be able to hang out without it being on the streets. Nobody is willing to listen, they have a voice also. Thats why they're shacked up in the backseat of a vehicle and 9 months later popping out babies. Because there is nothing else to do to occupy themselves. People dont think about the outcome of their doings, they only look for what will be put in their pocket.

And anywhere you go there are going to be druggies, thats what the police are for and if they cant clear them out then they're just not doing their job. You can spot a druggie from a mile away, i mean come on over half of haysi is full of them.

Maybe there should be a rehab clinic put in haysi??? hmmmmm....yeah thats right ppl, lets throw down the flowers and put in a halfway house and a rehab clinic...man at the attention we would get. hahaha
