HAYSI

The mayor’s post and three council seats will be up for grabs in Haysi.

Incumbent Mayor Norman Mullins, who has served as mayor of Haysi for more than 25 years, is not seeking re-election. However, five others are vying for the position: Larry Dean Yates, Dennis Reedy, E.J. Bink Rush, Gene Counts and Carter J. Branham.

The council terms currently held by Rocky Wood, Johnny Branham and Dennis Reedy will also be on the ballot.

Wood and Branham have both filed to run for re-election. Both were appointed to the council mid-term, with Wood having served since January of 2007 and Branham since March 2006.

Reedy, who has served two terms on the council, has opted to run for mayor. However, his wife, Diana Kilgore Reedy, will be on the ballot.

Other council seats are held by Joe Sperow, Mike Harris and Paul Arrington.

From Haysi

Just want to say

That I have been waiting along time to see some young people take over Haysi, I think it's time that someone at least TRY to see if they can get more business there. I would like to eat something besides pizza, back in the 70s we could go to the movies, had a place to eat, it's a shame that there was more in Haysi over 30 years ago than there is now.

Larry Yates or Dennis Reedy

Either one would do a fine job. Larry was very instrumental in the library project for the town.

CARTER BRANHAM

I think Carter Branham would be the best man for the position. He takes great pride in the town and I think he was do his best to bring businesses to the town of Haysi.

I totally agree with what you are saying, but how would he have time to do Haysi justice? He runs a business of his own and works another job besides. I don't really think that he would have enough hours in a week to be Mayor. I know that there are working Mayors sometimes, but they usually just have one job, not two or three.

I understand what you are saying - however, he must feel he would be able to do it, or he would have never put his name on the ballot.

He has workers at his business - plus I think at the prison/jail, you can work almost any shift you want.

the various vacancies. I am kinda glad I don't live in town because then I would have to pick ONE to vote for and I think highly of all these folks.
