Health fairs set for April 15-17
St. Mary's Health Wagon will host a three-day health fair April 15-17 where folks can receive free health care services and information about preventative health care.
In Dickenson County, the event will take place at the Clinchco Senior Citizens Center in Clinchco on April 16.
On April 15, the fair will be held at the Oxbow Center in St. Paul, and on April 17, it will be at the World Evangelical Outreach Church at Hurley in Buchanan County.
The fair will begin at 9 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. each day.
Patients can receive blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, pap smears and mammograms, prostate and testicular exams, colorectal screenings and much more. Sports and school physicals will also be offered.
Blood work for cholesterol, including HDL, LDL, and triglycerides, will be offered, in addition to glucose and hemoglobin readings.
Chest x-rays will be available as well as a consultation with Dr. Joe Smiddy, lung specialist, on April 16 only.
The event will also offer services that patients often neglect getting. For instance, pap smears will be offered. Mammograms will be scheduled at a local hospital.
For men, prostate and testicular exams will be offered. They can also have a blood test to aid in detection of prostate cancer.
Those who plan to have blood work done should not eat or drink after midnight the night before the test. Those who wish to have their medications reviewed by a physician should bring them to the fair.
