Is anyone else annoyed?

June 20 2008 at 11:18 PM

I think we all agree that the price of gas is ridiculous, never mind the cost of everything else going through the roof. But one thing I really miss is leaving home and not being able to make a "quick stop" for gas anymore.
You have to go in and pre-pay, and if its a place that sells food, etc. sometimes you have to stand in line forever to get up to pay for the gas.
Am I the only one who wishes that these places would have a separate register going just for the gas?

Here's what I do

June 20 2008, 11:56 PM

I will not patronize stations that require prepayment for gasoline unless their pumps accept a credit card. Unless it's almost an emergency situation I won't stop at a station that requires the customer to first walk in the store, usually wait in line and either fork over a credit card or give them cash in advance. Who the he!! knows what a fill up will cost and who wants to leave $35 at the register and then realize after pumping that amount that your tank would have held several dollars more?

Not only that if you have children you have to get them out, try to get them to stay with you while in line and keep them from picking out $10 in candy and load them back in the car to realize it took more and you have to do it all over again. I only stop at a few certain places and those have pay at the pump. I think in this day and age pretty much all stations should have this feature. More now with gas so high and the rise in drive offs!

FYI I saw on the news that gas stations will stop accepting credit cards because gas is so expensive people can't afford it, they don't pay the bills, then they don't receive payment. I don't know if that includes debit cards. You are right though, it is a pain in the butt to pay first. One day my car may take $50 to fill the next $80.

No i totally Agree with you on this Especially when you are Disabled and not able to walk or on a walker or cane and have to go all the way in there pay for it then go back out then to find out it was to much or not enough it's just way to much.If they know the person i would think it would be different and as for the food goes they do need to separate that totally Subway does.I know Gas price's are so high and people are doing some awful thing's but that's not Everyone. But we're all having to pay the Price for it.

Our experience

June 21 2008, 12:33 PM

has been at the Double Quik (which I think now are all Valeros)my husband stood in line FOREVER and when he was (finally!) just one away from the register there was a person in front of him who kept repeatedly buying and scratching lottery tickets right there at the register.
Finally, my husband reached around him and told the cashier "here is my gas money, I am at pump whatever" and the cashier was very rude to him, said he had to wait his turn. Also there was a couple who came in at the same time we did and they had to make about 3 trips back inside to try to get a pump turned on. This is nothing against people who buy lottery tickets, but I don't think when you have a line backed up that the cashier should allow people to stand there and keep buying/scratching tickets while the line gets longer. They could nicely asked them to step aside to do that.
There may be people in line who have their family or pets in their car and especially in this heat!!!

That's another problem it's fine to buy lottery ticket's shoot we all could use the Extra money as high as everything is these day's but buy them and go some where else and Scratch them off not at the Counter.I have a friend that buy's them all the time but she just take's them with her and scratch's them later she don't hold the line up for ever keeping everyone else waiting that's just rude. And for the Rude employee i have had the pleasure of having had to deal with one down there also and did not appreciate it at all.The gas is just as Cheap else where and alot nicer people and they will even pump it if your not able to and you don't have all the line's to wait in or BS to put up with either.

if you were in the owner's shows, you would do the same thing,, just take a minute and think about it..Simple solution..  Credit or a debit card, only thing is those 2 forms of payment make people keep with their bills and their check book.. a lot of people are not on board with those two things..  its kinda a double edged sword isnt it...

You got to think though that some people dont have or use credit cards or debit cards. Also I wonder when the gas prices in Haysi are going to go down some like they have in Clintwood? they are down to $3.89 in clintwood and one place over there is $3.88 while they are still $3.95 in Haysi that .06 cents adds up after awhile and right now that means alot so I wait till I'm in clintwood to fill up.

To answer that question

June 23 2008, 2:58 PM

you have to also ask, How many out there really believe that the reasons WE ARE BEING GIVEN for these high prices are really the truth, that there is a shortage of oil. Or are we just being victimized by the oil producers, the big gas companies and on down the line. Its just like the electric companies, they have us over a barrell and they know it.
I have also wondered if this is not an attempt by the Saudi Arabian oil producers to get back at President Bush. He made a trip over there awhile back and they were not glad to see him. From all accounts they weren't even hardly civil to him.
It wouldn't be the first time that Americans have been victimized to get back at one of our presidents. How many out there remember the Iranian Hostage situation when Carter was President? It may sound like a crazy idea, but you never know what goes on in peoples minds.

I am not sure why the Saudi's would want to get back at Bush....He should be their best buddy! He has screwed the American population to line his pockets and the pockets of his prep school homies. I think Bush used 9/11 to create panic in the public (you think!) and saw that devastation as an opportunity to jack up oil prices and infringe on our civil rights as far as privacy goes...The pain at the pump is just going to bleed more until private individuals come in and save us all...if you are waiting for the gov. to help.....don't hold your breath!

Is there an email I can contact you at (if you don't mind), or could you contact me at mom24256@yahoo.com, I been trying to figure out some things about my child starting kindergarden at SES and what I would need to do to join the PTO and wondering if they let parents volunteer at the school.

I think you will like Sandlick Elementary and your little one will have a great experience in Kindergarten. The 3 Kindergarten teachers are wonderful!!

I know there has been a lot said about SES, both positive and negative, recently. But there is good/bad at every school. My kids went to Sandlick(too many:) years ago and we all have good memories of their time at SES.
Also, I am sure you would be welcome there as a Volunteer. Help is always appreciated. And ,as I have said in my other posts, the PTO does a fine job.

Rivet head- Mad kisses to you! Thank you for appreciating us. It is nice for someone to say nice things about the hard work you do. I'm glad you are also saying nice things about SES. Like I have said before, my kids have attended other schools in MI and we LOVE SES! I really can't stress enough what a great teacher Mrs. Sullivan is (the other K teachers as well we just had Mrs. S!). The staff there really seem to care about our kids and you have no idea how nice that act is!
