Haysi BridgeJune 23 2008 at 7:52 PM | Info |
| Heard the bridge in haysi going up to the dam would be shut down at the end of the week Sunday, June 29 and re-opend sometime in July do to painting and some minor repairs. Might be a good idea if your planning on going that way to find an alternate route as to save time and not be able to go any farther. The easiest thing would be to just go through fork bottom which is where I assume they will redirect traffic. Hope this info is useful. |

If the bridge is closed sure hope there will be a 24 hour a day person on duty behind town to direct trafic to prevent accident's. |

I heard that there was a lot of bats under that bridge now too, that haysi was being overrun by them, somewhere in the 1000's living under that bridge. Thats just what I heard. |

Most (if not all) bat species in this area are insectivorous and choose to roost in locations that are optimal for eating insects, particularly flying insects.
Many flying insects have aquatic sub-adult life stages and many of those aquatic species emerge as flying adults in May and June.
Because of their proximity to a food source and the ability of concrete and other materials to retain heat at night, bridges are prime real estate for bat roosting.
If you want to place value judgment on them, I'd say bats are good for the town since they eat mosquitoes and other flying pests that are both a nuisance and potential disease vectors. |

If they eat mosquitos, I wish some would fly over by my house and set up home, the mosquitos are awlful outside here this year. | |
