You must dig into the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s to come up with a list of the top ten. Just take one decade (60s) for instance, a player by the name of Doug Fuller could be one of those top ten. |

Doesn't Matter

I think you need to reword your saying....the people that's being named on here weren't great athletes...most were "good" athletes at their best....great athletes go on to play professionally..... |

alot of great athletes do not go on to play professionally. much of that is being in the right place at the right time. alot of it is also having the size necessary. you can be a great athlete and just be too small to go to the nfl or nba or whatever. |

| terrible list | August 10 2008, 12:45 PM |
That list is just awful. Did you ever see Terry play basketball? He shot the ball everytime he touched it. Same with Mitzi Fuller. Neither were very good basketball players. The only reason they scored their points is because they shot everytime. Terry was a really good football player but that was about it. James Colley has been a great coach but was only a slightly above average athlete while at Haysi High. He may not even make the top 10 of the 70's. Dave Sutherland only played one sport but you ruled others out based on that very criteria. Jordan Compton? Awesome baseball player but did he play any other sport? Donald Hayes played football but not sure about anything else. If he played basketball then he is definitely not remembered for it. Carlos Gulley was really good in basketball but only slightly above average in football.
Jason Mondrage, Jamie Hackney, Kory Bostic and John Salyers all were good multi sport athletes but the rest of the "guys" list is just not really explainable. Blaine Hackney, Mike Owens, Terry Woods, Jeff Sutherland, Jake Colley, Pat Sutherland, Ryan Jones, Mike Mullins and Tito Mock all would easily rank ahead of atleast six guys you had on that list.

| blaine, mike and ryan | August 10 2008, 1:06 PM |
i agree that they were among the best in haysi history...maybe even top three in that order. blaine hackney was without argument the best runner haysi has ever had on the football field and was a super defensive back as well. he was consider mr. clutch on the baseball diamond and also played basketball. mike owens was without argument the biggest track star haysi's ever had and also without argument the best kicker the football team has ever had. he was a pretty good receiver too. ryan jones was a beast both on the gridiron and the diamond and also played basketball.
one guy i haven't seen mentioned that was also a force to be reckoned with was blake owens. i didn't see him mentioned but he was a multi sport talent as well. |
