Dickenson County FairJuly 31 2008 at 10:31 PM | Anonymous |
| I was at the fair last night (wed) and it was terrible, this year was the worst fair that I have ever seen since Dickenson County has been having one, there's nothing there, you couldnt really call it a fair and I heard alot of other people there talking about how bad it was. It sure wasnt worth going to thats for sure (jmo) |

Well if some people would help volunteer their time in trying to make things better rather that just complaining about it might help some things. You can't complain if you dont want to help bring better things into our county!!
People that have all bad things to say about just not need to say anything. |

I am supposed to volunteer, bettween work, going to college (yes they have a summer session), and taking care of my children and being a wife? You let me know when I have time to volunteer and I'll then find a baby sitter shell out my money to take my kids there, the money to pay her, and shell out more gas money to go to where it is I am volunteer then we'll see. |

I was there all week and I think the county people should be glad we have people who are willing to help bring something here our kids can enjoy once a year at least.I know for a fact this time of year is the only time some of the kids get to do anything during the summer. So I thank all who make the fair possible no matter big or small I am just thankful we have something on this side for our people.I would never complain about that and by the way where can you get into anywhere for five dollars? |

Is that a little pent up hostility? The point the poster was trying to make is if you don't participate (volunteer) you shouldn't complain! I have never seen so many belly achers in my life! In answer to your question, you are supposed to MAKE time like every other volunteer. You think all the people that volunteer to do nice things around here are single and childless? Give me a break! |

If you looked in the ticket booth most of the people are "on the draw" or older and retired so they have nothing better do to! As a tax payer I think I can complain about anything this county does if I choose to do so! |

yeah because complaining changes things, right? Let me know how that works for ya! Whether you pay taxes or not, whether you are "on the draw", whatever! If it is "crappy" people that do the work so people have stuff to do and you are "normal" why wouldn't you want to have a hand in how things are run. Notice I said hand not belly aching! |

I beg to differ.I and some of my friends volunteer at the fair.I work every day and go after work not that it should make a difference because people like you and we all know who you are would as usual complain about anything.maybe you should have made a hat and brought it to the fair.I am very proud we have good people to volunteer and help do something for our county. |

That’s good you work, and why in the hell would I make a hat? Have you never seen the Disney movie Alice in Wonderland? And I doubt you know how I am, I just moved here from Ohio. Unless your stereo typing me in a group of "complainers" which I have no problem with, you get called lots of things for just speaking your mind and opinion! |

Maybe I made a mistake moving my family to a "nice" community, with "good values". Obviously this isn’t it. Where people jump someone just for stating an opinion or their point of view, is not my idea of a healthy environment to live in. No wonder people in this region get called "backwoods" because their backwards on their values and only accept their own kind i.e. people who are from this area and have been raised in this environment. There is no tolerance in this area. But then again that’s just my opinion. |

You moved here from Ohio.
You JUST stated your opinion.
You moved here from Ohio.
We are supposed to be GRATEFUL that a transplant comes in-from Ohio-to tell us how miserable you feel about the things we do here. How you feel as though you can critique and condemn. And WE are the bad guys? You JUST stated your opinion? I think you gave a little more than an observant, objective viewpoint. Don't you?
You just moved here from Ohio.
Consider moving back.

Hunny the U-haul may as well be packed. Maybe if I had an opinion praising this area you all wouldn't be so picky about what I say. But like I said, the U-Haul may as well be packed. Consider your self the winners of this "Civil War" I here you folks like those. This city family is out of the hills before the end of the week! Case Closed! |

If you don't like it, then leave. I don't think anyone would be at the front door begging you to stay. |

Hey fellow Northerner! The mountains are bad and all the people aren't terrible either. It is a huge adjustment to come from the city to here. I know, we originated out of Michigan. It takes some time to get to know people and I don't think that is a Dickenson Co. thing, I think that is anywhere. I am sorry that we haven't had a chance to meet but honestly there are a lot of really good people here. It has it's pro's and con's that's everywhere that you live. I think that maybe there aren't a lot of events that go on here so people take things so very critically. If you have spent any time on here you can see that there are people that try to promote a business or event and you have the ones giving praise and then those that shred things for no apparent reason. Maybe you just got caught in the cross fire. Seriously though, I hope you are not moving because of the nastiness on the forum. If you do best wishes if not maybe we can chat again! |

Well, I for one thought the fair was bad and boorrring. I have seen more people at a revival meeting. The most people were there on Sunday during the motor cross races. That was exciting to watch for this area. Battle of the Bands was ok and the horse show was just a horse show.....no frills. The ones that enjoyed the fair are your people that like a laid back lifestyle and thats what this fair is....small and laid back. The rides are for the little kids with their parents. Just wish they could find a bigger area to have it so maybe they could attract bigger and more exciting rides. I just think this fair will always be just a low-key family "outing!" | |

As an adult and most importantly a parent I saw many children enjoying the fair and as long as they did what does it matter, I would too liked to see more stuff up there, but I didn't voluteer or contribute either and if I was too busy I'm sure others couldn't find time either I agree if you want something better find a way to make it better complaining is not going to do it. And even though there wasn't as much as some people would have liked to have seen there seemed to be plently to put smiles on the faces of the children of our community. Everyone complains there is nothing for our kids to do in our community and now we complain because there was a week of festivities to enjoy. I for one am very appreciative it was available for all those who did enjoy it, my kids are still talking about the fun they had and that is the most important thing to me. Furthermore our citizens need to be reminded when they are fundraisers throughout the year for the Fair Association if we do not participate that limits the amount of money that will be used for next year's fair. I understand not having time to volunteer but we can contribute in other ways. The more money recieved the bigger and better the fair can be. All bands must be paid, sound people must be paid, and the fact we are a small community the rides will be limited, why would any company want to bring all of their rides from NC without having a large Festival to make the trip worth their while they want to make a profit too. There's alot of things to consider when wondering about the success of our county fair. For all those who directly and indirectly helped with the fair my kids and I say Thanks and see ya next year. |
