if your wanting to start a new board here's some advice

February 28 2009, 11:38 PM

Try and come up with a more original name. New Haysi Forum versus Haysi Area Forum is too confusing. And please for the love of God don't use network54 the ads are annoying and the interface is too darn limited. Ask Peter Martin peter@abol.us for some help on setting up on a more advanced adfree system for free. http://mybb.appbbs.com

Simplicity

March 1 2009, 1:46 PM

I thought for Simplicity sake calling it the New Haysi Forum would make sense for now. I have been going through more names for the board and thought I would change it once the board caught on. Your post is one of the very reasons why the new board exists. There won't be any bullying over there or ill words. If this board can change it's attitude then I see no reason why it shouldn't still exist and the new forum I made to be deleted. I think that a lot of people are fed up with a lot of the backlash and negativity from this board. I know Haysi Gal does the best she can and I wish her continued success. I have supported this board with posts for several years now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope that the posters here will become more friendly and learn what should or shouldn't be said in an open forum such as this.

Just an Idea

March 1 2009, 1:47 PM

Come over to the board and give me your ideas for a new name. Anyone who reads this is welcome and invited to help out with ideas for a new board name. I will post my names and others in a Votelet and let you decide.

Hello Everyone,
I would like to ask for all visitors to submit a name for the new board. This is in response to the the name being unoriginal. I thought for simplicity's sake, in the beginning to get the idea across that calling it The New Haysi Forum would be easily understood. I had ideas for other names that I thought I would change it to later on. My ideas are below. I also want as many names from all of you as possible. I will compile the names into a Votelet and allow users to vote on which one they like the best. I will allow until the end of next week, March 8th at 12:00 p.m. for names to be submitted. I will then make a Votelet with the names. I think this will give everyone ample time to get their ideas submitted.

Names I Thought Of:

Haysi: Talk of the Town (This is my favorite).
Big Ridge Board and Beyond
Haysi Howler
Tiger Town Talk

I will be looking forward to your submissions.

I share your opinion of the Network54 forums. They are horribly dated and look and work like something from the Dark Ages.

ATTENTION Network54: 1996 called; they want their HTML back. happy.gif

The MyBB application you mentioned is nice and is modeled after popular boards that get tens of thousand of posts every day. The URL http://mybb.appbbs.com/haysi will redirect you to a sub-forum for Haysi VA. I set it up to aggregate and post RSS feeds from Google dealing with Haysi which I find handy to keep up with local news--and comment on it. It also as a "Report to moderator" link which should solve the problem Sugar Cane was addressing.

To Sugar Cane, or anyone who would like to moderate and promote another board, just contact me anytime. If you like running a forum, I think you agree that there are far better solutions than these Network54 spam-ridden freebie forums. (But then, that's how they make money; you do all the work of getting a customer base to drive ad revenues into their pockets, instead of local businesses.)
