STRANGE WORLD

This was posted on the Strange World list.

We are about to launch our letter writing campaign to FOX. If you have friends or family that you could encourage to write a letter, do so. We need as many letters as we can get. Please feel free to share this anywhere or with anyone that you think you can inspire a letter or two (in other words, post to every list you are on. No permission to repost is required).

As we all know, snail mail is the way to go if we want to be taken seriously. Write Fox, but try to write it by hand. After you send the snail, if you want to send an email go for it, but OUR STRENGTH lies in snail mail. Networks ASSUME you are more dedicated if you go to the trouble of putting a stamp on it. Handwritten letters have a greater impact than typed ones, but they must be legible. If you chose to type the letter, please ensure that you use personal stationary as opposed to business stationary, as this will carry more weight.

Here are some suggestions (many drawn from list
discussions) to consider when you are writing. Do NOT indicate that you are part of an group effort. Anything that smacks of an organized letter-writing campaign instantly loses credibility. To explain what prompted you to write you can point to discussions on the net or this Cinescape article.

'Strange World' Still Alive?
Regular Cinescape tipster 'TomBli' returns again with some info regarding the possibly canceled Strange World… and attempts to revive it. Here's what TomBli tells:

"Howard Gordon, late of The X-Files is also late of his newest production Strange World if you listen to the trades.
However, the science and medicine mystery series may be pulling off a miraculous recovery.

"Just like the bizarre transplants featured in the series, Strange World is about to attempt one of it's own. I have word that the producers are seeking to court other networks with their remaining episodes. At this time UPN is being looked at and Fox has been mentioned as a consideration. An announcement may be made later this week.

(Thanks again to 'TomBli' for the Strange tip!)

Keep the letters as positive as possible. Derogatory remarks about X-Files or Chris Carter will NOT help. If you want to bring X-Files into the subject, state the ways that SW differs from XF (without disparaging XF). It might be better to compare SW to Robin Cook or Michael Crichton novels, if you are familiar with them. Or you could even relate how seeing Strange World for the first time reminded you of how you felt when you saw X-Files for the first time.

If you want to, mention the fact that you were
disappointed in ABC for dismissing SW after three shows and less than two weeks or their lack of promotion for SW, but don't vent your frustrations to FOX. If you need to vent, ask on list for the addie to ABC again. We will be more than happy to provide it to you. (veg) Tell them how much you like SW and that you think it would fit into their schedule. Cite reasons that you like the show (ex. it's timely, intelligent drama, based on hard science, cutting edge, not the usual network fare, the type of show usually found only on cable, etc.) and because of these reasons you think that it will fit into FOX's line up better than other networks.

You can throw in some demographics in the form of "I'm a 32 year old, single mother of two and I love the show!" or "My wife and I are both in our late thirties and we enjoyed Strange World very much." (We are assured that women 18-49 are a demographic that FOX pays attention to.)

Send the letter to FOX Programming AND to Doug Herzog (who is the new Entertainment President of FBC and former Comedy Central Prez of TV programming. An interesting article on Herzog coming to FOX
http://www2.cnnfn.com/hotstories/companies/9811/17/fox/ ).
That's two letters, but you can just change the salutation and the address and keep the body of the letter the same, if you like.
