thoroughly deserved the game. we were shite, i used to be frustrated when shearer was the golden boy who could never be dropped.....beckham is ten times worse, deluded enough to think he can play defensive centre mid anywhere other than the poxy spanish league. after we won the league jose mourinho came out and said that not frank lampard, nor john terry - our captain and most devoted player on the pitch, are free from being dropped if they do not perform - they would not be in the team on past performances. perhaps if england were more like that........
we pick teams on past merit
we play the best players we have whether they are in the right position or not, if gerrard can be told to stay back with the very rare exception, or either he or frank lampard has to be dropped and replaced with carrick or parker. shauny wright wright wright - phillips or beckham has to play on the right. kieron richardson and stuart downing both have a shout for the troubled left wing position, though joey cole should be favourite.
as much as i dislike rio ferdinand and think him a lazy dispassionate shite house, he should be in the team as the cultured defender, he runs people off the ball and breaks-up play, and john terry should be alongside him, he will put his body on the line every game for club and country (see the norwich game - headed the ball and the striker's boot because no way would he let that shot on goal go for free.....). when we are up against it against argentina in the last quarter of an hour ferdinand should be subbed for carragher - another terry like player.
wouldn't it be nice to have the likes of lampard/gerrard/wright phillips/beckham on the bench to come on and turn a game, rather than burning out players in the wrong position.
