ANKARA: Armenia May Withdraw From Nagorno-Karabakh
ARMENIA MAY WITHDRAW FROM NAGORNO-KARABAKH
Turkish Daily News
Sept 12 2008
Armenia seems to be willing to withdraw from Nagorno-Karabakh,
according to the Turkish president.
"I've seen in Yerevan that the Armenians are willing to pull out from
the Azerbaijani territory," President Abdullah Gul said to a group
of journalists on board the flight to Baku on Wednesday.
He said Armenia and Azerbaijan were also willing to resolve their
conflict over the Nagorno- Karabakh region, after he had talks in
the two countries. Gul's visit to Azerbaijan followed the weekend's
football diplomacy in Armenia. In Baku, he met with his Azerbaijani
counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, and briefed him about his recent visit
to Yerevan.
Armenia and Azerbaijan both have "an honest and sincere desire for
a settlement," Gul said.
He said the conflict between Georgia and Russia, which erupted last
month, had triggered a new desire to resolve outstanding problems in
the Caucasus.
Turkey wants progress in ending the Nagorno-Karabakh tensions between
Azerbaijan, one of its closest allies, and Armenia, which would allow
Ankara to take bolder steps in its reconciliation bid with Yerevan. The
Turkey-Armenia football match last Saturday already opened the way
for dialogue, demolishing the psychological barrier in bilateral ties.
No concerns on Azerbaijani part
Gul played down suggestions that Ankara's push to reconcile with
Yerevan had irked Azerbaijan, which has close economic and political
ties as well as ethnic and cultural bonds with Turkey.
"We agree that we should make efforts to try to resolve the issue... If
this opportunity is missed, who knows when a new opportunity will
arise?" he said. "Everyone is aware that a settlement will lead to
comprehensive cooperation from which all will benefit."
Gul became the first Turkish head of state to visit Armenia when
he traveled to Yerevan on Saturday to watch a World Cup qualifying
football match between the two countries at the invitation of Armenian
President Serge Sarkisian.
Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Wednesday he was trying to organize
a trilateral meeting with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts
on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York later
this month.

We should never yield an inch of Artshakh territory. It would be the thin edge of the wedge. Turkey's and Azerbaijan's interest in Artshakh is NOT in Artsakh as such, after all they both have much more land than we have, but it is in undermining the territorial integrity of Armenia, leaving a narrow sliver of land separating Turkey from Azerbaijan in the south. At the opportune monent, these ravenous wolves, the Boz Kurts, having bided their time, would, they think, attack and eliminate this barrier to their union, and their pipe dreams of a panturanic empire stretching from the straits to Central Asia, especially now that the latter is rich with untold oil reserves. Big deal that Gul came to Yerevan. What benefit is that to Armenia. The border still remains closed. There are still no official diplomatic ties. Armenia is still excluded from every shred of economic and commercial benefits from the Baku-Ceyhan pipeline, and the Kars-Tiflis railline that skirts around Armenia. And to think that Armenia knuckled under Turkish pressure to remove Ararat, our holiest and most enduring symbol, from the logo of the Armenian national football team. Why didn't Armenians insist that Turkey remove the Sickle Moon from the Turkish logo, since the Moon belongs to the whole world, Armenians and Turks alike. Beware of Greeks/Turks bearing gifts. Here, it isn't even any gifts, but the vague promise or hint of gifts.
Ne shamou shekerin, ne Turkun uzun.

Armenian - Turkish Relations
What would Armenia gain by the opening of the border with Turkey?
Armenian Genocide (2008-09-14 15:54)
President Gul is welcomed to Armenia. Next time he should visit Armenia with his wife-(first lady) . Armenians in Armenia (this includes Tashnaks) should respect Turkish national symbols (e.g. Turkish flag) . There are many les aggressive ways to protest against Turkish denial policy and demand justice ….
-Nothing has changed! We have to deal with the same Turkish nationlism which is responsible for the Genocide! Turkey needs just a plan "B" against future “Genocide Resolutions” and new possibilities how to blackmail Armenia in future! Today,Turkey can get this and that from Armenia and open for one or a couple months the “railroads” and close it again tomorrow ...
- Even if Turkey agrees to open the boarder/railroads there is NO guaranty that Turkey would not close it tomorrow. Turkey can always find an excuse for its Anti-Armenian actions. Turkey is looking after new bargaining chips against Armenia- for the case there is an Armenian Genocide Resolution in US.. !!
- Armenia Genocide is a fact! This is the task of every Armenian above all a task for Diaspora Armenians to inform the world community about Turkish denial policy and the way which Turkey is trying to blackmail Armenia to cover up Turkish past crimes!
Turkey is country not a country with law and order and free speach! Turkish propaganda will do everything to “separate Armenians”! Armenian´s Government should not send the wrong signals to the world community.

A little piece of history: The only reason why Artsakh in in Azerbaijan hands is because of the soviet union. It was populated by over 90% Armenians, but because of Armenian rebellions against the conquering of the Soviet Union, it was handed down to Azerbaijan. Artsakh fought for their independence when Azeris were trying to populate the lands with Azeris and other muslim cultures, by removing all Armenian culture in it, but in the end, these are Armenian lands lived by Armenians, only under the rule of Azerbaijan.
Like any other state under another government's control, Artsakh has the right for its independence and union to its own nationality. Nakhitchevan was also over 50% Armenian, but they were deported, killed, and exiled from there. The world doesn't talk much about this, but Artsakh was to become the next Nakhitchevan, which bears an Armenian name. Armenia will not give up on Artsakh. It can't, it is our honor, our lands and our last hope for survival. For the first time in history, the Armenian nation conquered Turks instead of being conquered by them, and plus they are so-called "Azeri Lands" which not even a century ago belonged to Armenians and was always lived by Armenians. The same acts done by Armenians in the Karabakh war were done by Azeris in the armenian-cleansing of Nakhitchevan. Azerbaijan lost control of those lands in a fair manner in the ways of war, and like any other conquered lands in history, these lands rightfully belong to Armenians. |
