HIS HOLINESS ARAM I VISITING IRAN

ANTELIAS, Lebanon - His Holiness Aram I yesterday arrived in Tehran with a delegation representing the Armenian Catholicosate of Cilicia. The visitation program of His Holiness includes Christian-Muslim dialogue on ‘family today’, a keynote speech to be delivered at a public forum on ‘Christian Education Today’ and meetings with community and state representatives.

The Armenian community of Iran has its deep roots in the history of the country. More than 200 thousand Armenians live in major cities of Iran such as Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Ourmia, Shiraz. The Armenian community is represented with 2 deputies, the only Christian deputies, in the parliament of the country.



WCC General Secretary

HIS HOLINESS ARAM I RECEIVES THE GENERAL SECRETARY
OF THE WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES IN GENEVA

ANTELIAS, Lebanon - His Holiness Aram I received the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Dr. Sam Kobia, in the hotel he is staying in Geneva recently. The vice-chairwoman of Ecumenical Committee of the Catholicosate, Ms. Teni Pirri Simonian also attended the meeting.

The Pontiff and his guest discussed the possibilities of developing the cooperation between the WCC and the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), the need to give a new push to the Christian-Muslim dialogue. They also talked about the WCC’s future projects.

His Holiness’ upcoming official visit to the Vatican next month was also discussed. His Holiness was invited as keynote speaker for the international Christian-Muslim Dialogue conference in Geneva.
