Published: Friday January 9, 2009
LITTLE ARMENIA--Leaders and members of the community gathered on Jan. 4 to pay tribute to long-time Armenian Revolutionary Federation leader Hrair Maroukhian commemorating the 10th anniversary of his death.
Present at the requiem service and the memorial reception that followed were ARF Bureau member Dr. Viken Hovsepian, Chairman of the ARF Western US Central Committee Avedik Izmirlian and the entire Central Committee board, members of the Catholicosate Central Executive Khajag Dikijian and Vahe Yacoubian, as well as affiliate organizational representatives, ARF members and community supporters.
After officiating the Memorial Mass, Western Prelate Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian highlighted Maroukhian's great accomplishments and the important role he played in our contemporary national reality.
The tribute followed the Mass and was opened with ARF Western US Central Committee member John Kossakian presenting Maroukhian's biography and highlighting his important accomplishments after which a video presentation chronicled the ARF leader's life and national service.
Future historians will surely highlight the critical role Hrair Maroukhian played in our nation's political struggle, said ARF Western US Central Committee member Seto Boyajian in his remarks at the gathering.
Hrair Maroukhian lived and worked with one objective--to serve his nation and the cause of Armenia's liberation. This became his only motto, for which he considered his ARF oath the most sacred of principles, added Boyajian.
The event included performances of patriotic songs by Nersig Ispirian, including a song he wrote in Maroukhian's memory. The attendees concluded the event with the singing of the ARF anthem.
