There are few well-known touristic sites outside Yerevan where tourist tours go and the scenery there are kept clean to avoid tourist scrutiny, but away from those touristic sites, in rural region the inhabitants dump garbage, sewer, chemicals and trash in rivers, ravines and waters (and in summer kids swim in those contaminated waters)..according to this article they even started dumping in aqueducts..such a misery and unsanitary conditions -other third world countries also do it and worst but this is our Armenia and there should be put a stop to it.

The aqueduct conveying water from Arzni to Shamiram continues to serve as a convenient garbage dump for local residents along its path.

A few years ago the aqueduct was completely overhauled and maintenance crews periodically make repairs when and where needed. But the trash problem remains as evidenced by the accompanying photo.

Residents argue that their communities do not have appropriate garbage collection sites.

Yeghvard Deputy Mayor Karen Haroutyunyan disagrees, noting that in his community at least an adequate number of trash receptacles have been installed.

During the summer heat, area kids use the canal to take a cool dip. A number have drowned. The latest incident took place last summer when a 14 year-old lost his life.

Someone who visited earth from a far far away galaxy said "Some of the earth's beautiful vacation destinations, like Armenia, are on the brink of ruin from abuse of nature, exploitation, diseases, disasters & man's foolishness, carelessness, and greed. Now's the time to visit these endangered places, before it's too late, and everything has become a barren desert not worthy of visit"
