I know a Sacramento performer who added the option of building stuffed animals to her portable birthday show. It caught on really well. Her unit is portable. Kind of like taking Build a Bear in a car. Parents like the craft idea and she makes a good amount on each character they build.
I know two performers who are Kids Club hosts at local malls once a week and spend the rest of their time traveling to do shows.
Fortunately, I live in such a metropolis that I am home 98% of the nights! I no longer have to drive more than a couple of hours (tops) to go to a show. I don't advertise more than 90 miles away, and that's just for public shows. Birthdays have to be within 40 minutes or so. Nice!
