Just a question. Senor Wences felt that no more than 5 puppets should be used in one show (and he did a lot of shows to test the theory). However, he worked with adults who can appreciate longer routines.
How many puppets do you recommend for a 45 minute show?
I saw the master Ronn Lucas use three. Billy, the dragon, and his sock and three elastic bands. Ron

This is a good question. When I do schools, I will ususally use three characters along with magic. 45 minutes disappear very quickly for me.

I usually use no more than 4 puppets, I find that if you introduce all of the characters first, then you can later on bring then out more than once and the children in the audience find it funny if the character is still talking while he/she is in the box/trunk, they think it has been naughty or bad, it always works for me that way but remember, dont repeat the same thing to the same audience!!!

Jonathan, a point of clarification please.Do you mean do not repeat the voices from somewhere else in a show or don't play the same show twice to the same audience. Sorry, I haven't got to work yet and brain is still free floating. Thanks, Ron

I meant I NEVER repeat the same show to the same audience. Charachers voices are all different my possum is very slow but talks REALLY fast, and my main character Reynald (Rabbit) is really hungry EVERY TIME HE SEES THE AUDIENCE!
