VentriloHosting

September 5 2007 at 11:01 AM

Hi everyone,

A few months ago, I hosted a Magic Competition using all of my figures...one at a time/ two at a time

It went quite well...the audience were practically excited on what character I will be with when I get back after each contestant.

I used all my figures/puppets (Axtells/Carcamo/Poyner and Selberg) plus a routine with a Cable Mask and the Magic Drawing Board.

I am now planning to use this concept in hosting Kiddie Birthday parties...

...here in Manila, aside from doing magic shows and ventriloquism, party entertainers also handle the games and other party deatails like Candle Blowing etc.

BTW, parties here are half hosting (games fascilitation) and half Magic/Vent show proper...I plan to use a different set of figures for the hosting part and a different set of figures for the show proper

Any ideas and suggestions regarding this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Wanlu

Star of the show

September 5 2007, 4:15 PM

I had fun with a girl puppet like the Axtell Diva's. (My dreamgirls.) When the party has a princess theme she comes out and wants to be the star of the party. I tell her that the birthday girl is. She wants to be a princess, so we ask permission from the birthday girl. Then she tries to decide which princess to become.

V: Your nickname is Beauty.
G: Do I meet a prince?
V: Yes. And you fall madly in love.
G: I don't want to be mad. I just want to be in love.
V: You fall in love with the prince.
G: Yes! The handsome prince!
V: Well, he isn't really that handsome.
G: The good looking prince.
V: Not really.
G: The cutey-pie prince.
V: You don't care how he looks. You are in love!
G: What do you mean, I don't care how he looks? Who is this guy?
V: Do you want to know his name?
G: Yes.
V: Well, your name is Beauty.
G: That's a good name for me.
V: His name is Beast.
G: What?
V: Beast. It's a good name for him.
G: Stop the story! Okay, I want to be a different princess.
V: Okay. You can be Cinderella. She meets a handsome prince.
G: Now you're talking!
V: The story starts off with you in the bathroom.
G: What!
V: You are cleaning the sink, and the bathtub, and the floor, and the toilet.
G: Wait a minute! You said I'm the princess.
V: Not yet. First you are doing all of the housework! All of the chores!
G: Who else lives with me?
V: You have two stepsisters and a stepmother.
G: Good. They can help.
V: They are very wicked. They won't help you. They want you to do their chores!
G: etc.

I also talk about Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, having the puppet fall asleep on either one and a boy at the party must come up and kiss her to awaken her. She keeps peeking and looking forward to the kiss.

Master of Ceremonies

September 5 2007, 4:18 PM

When emceeing you can honor each child by asking for volunteers who are wearing red shoes. Or who have their shoelaces tied in a double knot. Or wearing a ribbon in their hair. Try to involve each child in some way that makes them feel special, but involve the birthday child a few times, even if it is to come up and pick a volunteer.

Pancit Guisado

September 6 2007, 2:51 PM

Wan(Juan?) One of my other hobbies is cooking. A Filipino woman taught me how to do proper wok stir frys. Now I'm trying to properly make the noodles and meat dish named in the header. Wanlu, I don't think you saw my Spanish joke in one of my recent forum letters(Borders will say you saw it and ignored it!) so here it goes again
..Now, of course, Canadians have great Spanish names. For example, In Republica Dominica in the early 70's I had almost unlimited free drinks The folks down there would say (insert question mark)..como se llama. I'd say..Ron..and as great hosts they'd give me a shot of rum. Of course they were also convinced this Canuck had serious drinking problems.
On a vent front, are your magic tricks done with big items/gimmicks so they can be seen at a distance? By the way, if you can, try to attend the annual convention of Vent Haven..some of the best vents in the world are there and one can steal thousands of ideas. I know the chairman of the International committee who books the acts from outside the Excited States and I will gladly connect you to Stevo. Adios.
Ronaldo( no free rum name)

Hi Ron

September 7 2007, 8:57 AM

Pansit guisado is yummy, but you should try "Kangkong with Bagoong" eaten with new cooked rice and fresh tomatoes..Heaven on Earth

Regarding VentHaven, early this year I emailed Mr Mark Wade several times and never got a reply. This year, just weeks after this year's convention, I emailed him again expressing my interest to attend next year.

I need an invitation letter to represent my country/culture as a ventriloquist so I can present it to the U.S. Embassy for Visa. A visa is so difficult to get so I want to start filing the application as early as now but so far, NO EMAILS...REPLIES from Mr Wade

I also wanted to attend the Japan Vent convention this year but I figured it might be more practical to save for next year's VentHaven gathering instead.

I would appreciate any help I can get so I can meet you all next year. It will be a dream come true, God willing

BTW, Im a big fan of your work

Thanks

VentHaven

September 8 2007, 7:50 AM

Hi Ron,

I was wondering if Mr Wade had a wrong perception regarding my request for an invitation. Im only asking for an invitation letter...no special accomodations or anything like that despite the fact that I could be the next Jeff Dunham or Ron Crowley

A letter from the organizers can help me process my visa and I would like to start working on it a year before the next convention

It will be a dream come true to meet everyone in VentHaven...Steve Axtell, Tim Selberg, you, Mr Wade, Jeff Dunham, Ronn Lucas...Mike Brose, Al Stevens...other figure makers...and other fellow vents

Thanks

Wanlu

Busy Vents are Good Vents

September 10 2007, 7:08 PM

Id like to add that Mr Wade seem like a very nice guy...he's on tour right now and promised to get back to me as soon as he gets back...Im sure glad he said so and not "As soon as Im not busy..." because looking at his show and performance style, a performer like him will never be "Not Busy"
