| Some of you may be asked soon if you can come to a Vacation Bible School or a library and fit their summer theme. Here are some quick ways to make your regular entertaining skits match up. (Keep in mind that when they say they have a theme it probably means they put up a few decorations or advertised it in a certain way. YOU are the main speaker and you just don't want to clash.)
1. Hats. Cowboy, explorer, space, sports, etc. Put a hat on your figure. Or go to Ross and get a themed outfit.
2. Scarves, silks, or fabric often have themes. Drape it over your backdrop. Cover your vent stand. Do a magic trick.
3. Saying or words repeated: Choose a few words or a phrase that the audience will learn that night.
4. Song with the Drawing Board. Play the song and as you finish the drawing we find out that the drawing is the singer.
5. Party store. LOTS of themes there!
6. Teaching supplies. Tell a story using bulletin board pieces and volunteers to hold them.
7. Before you say, "No, I don't have that theme think whether that program would pay for another puppet. If so, use the money to order the puppet to fit the theme! |

I stopped by Party America today, the large local party supply store, just to see if there was anything I needed.
Sure enough, they had some cute bugs for the summer library theme and also some GREAT kid friendly party music. If you want music for a particular theme be sure to check out the party store! Luau's, princess parties, etc. They must have had two dozen different themes! Most were by Drew's famous music, I think it's called.
So keep in mind that you can fit their theme with background music or find something for the Magic Drawing Board to sing.
I practiced my new assembly show in front of my daughter's 4th grade class today. Went very well. At the end I asked them to raise their hand if they liked a particular trick or puppet I had used and I held up each of the props. Only two were losers, both magic tricks that they had figured out.
People think I'm a good magician, but that's only an illusion. |
