Hello, I am new to this forum and also new to the World of Ventriloquist and Magic arena. I have a few questions so please bear with me. I live in Montana and want to start working in the Ski Resort areas, at the Lodges and such. My wife and I are currently working on several small business ideas and one of those being a Puppet and Magic show for kids.
I thought a good idea would be able to provide a nice family entertainment show for kids, while the parents scoot off to dinner and some drinks would be a good idea.
Recently the wife and I spent a weekend up in the Whitefish area of Montana at a place called the Kandahar Lodge. There was a massage guy there who would come into the lobby in the evenings and would give 10 minute massages for $10.00.
Hmm, I thought, I should be able to get $10.00 per kid for a 30-45 minute show, or something along that line. I figured 10 or 12 kids per show, maybe do two shows on a Saturday night, I could make a few hundred dollars on the side.
We noticed that there wasn't too much at the Lodge for children to do except hang out in the lobby by the fireplace, maybe play some cards or something.
My question is this, Is $10.00 per kid too much to ask?
and, what are the going rates for this kind of work?
I made a living for over 15 years doing Live Entertainment as a Musician, and I could average anywhere from $150.00 to $400. per night, depending on where I was playing. Granted that was usually for a 4-hour show. I am not looking to do that anymore, but I do want to work part time and make a few dollars.
I have put together a website and I am in the process of working out some routines and magic tricks. I will be using a small sound system and have purchased some of the AX-Tracs to use in my show.
Any thoughts and ideas are welcome, and would be greatly appreciated.
