Need help with Fred

November 20 2008 at 1:00 PM
Steve Scott

Hello everybody,
Just sitting here suffering from sinus surgery and planing an intro to use with Fred the Fried Turkey. I want to use Grieg's "Morning from the Pier Gynt Suite, Opus 46" with chirping birds etc. (Bambi like music). I see Fred's head slowly coming up through the "vegetation or something" until gradually you see the whole of Fred's body appear. I am having difficulty with what the "vegetation or something" could be made from. It has to be tall enough and thick enough to hide Fred's body but light weight at the same time.Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. Steve

By vegetation do you mean brush, or food like garnish around a plate, or flowers in a pot, or.....?

Hi Steve,

I don't want food garnish on a plate. I already have that stuff for a different presentation. I don't think a flower pot will do either. Maybe I do mean brush or grass or cat tails. What could they be made of? Starting to get some more ideas but would still like help with this prop. Thanks Steve Scott

florals for Fred

Go to a Joann, or similar fabric/craft store and sort through their collection of leaves, vines, bushes (all artificial) and you'll find something you like.

I think you will need the tall grasses. It would be like a hula skirt upside down, with the waistband near the bottom of the turkey and the grasses going up. IF his head turns all the way around you could have it on the back half of the body and just poke the head through, then turn him all the way around eventually. (I haven't seen Fred.)

You may want to do a "Look, but don't see" to add length to the surprise. A bit of scouting around from you as well with your hand over your eyebrows like you are looking in the distance for something that is right beside you!

Peeking Fred

Not to be confused with Peeking Duck !

How about if you used a holiday table centerpiece ?

Fred could slowly peek over the top while the music plays (excellent choice for the music, by the way !). Then he could comment on the lovely floral arrangement on the holiday table. Then, he could suddenly realize that he is the main course for dinner !

KFC

I realize you don't want food, but you could put him in a KFC bucket. Just cut out the bottom or back for access.

Thanks for all the super ideas. You got me thinking. I do have a question for Tony though. How would you get the grass of a hula skirt to stand up? Life has so many pressing questions.

It would need another band glued to the inside about "shoulder" high, with enough space for his head to pop through above that.

You can get poinsettia or pine leave garland (strings of flowers) almost anywhere and could build a "bucket" or "nest" for Fred to pop out of.

Fred in Paradise

December 1 2008, 1:45 PM

Thanks again everybody for all the suggestions for Fred.I took them all into consideration and had a good think of the kind of environment turkeys live live in. A bit of camo cloth and and a bunch of different silk and plastic greeneries from the Dollarama and PRESTO!! A woodland paradise that any turkey would be proud to live in.

For a different presentation, Fred has a platter with various silk and plastic veggies. I had to get the fake taters from a restaurant supply place. They are held on with velcro.

Thanks again Steve

Fred Fotos!

Post photos here.... it's easy. Upload them to Photobucket, or Facebook then copy the address of the photo to the forum.

Would love to see Fred in different environments.

He'd look good in a tux..... or in a cape as super chicken..../ turkey....
