Don't do it

When in doubt, leave it out. Just do a regular show.

Egg-zasperated?

I'm confused too from reading the question NJ. There are about 3 or 4 different questions and subjects there. You might want to clarify your question in order to get a clear answer. I'll Passover the Mixed Marriage part and get to the Easter subject...

We have a Christian based AxTrax called "Excited About Easter". You can read that script here... http://www.axtell.com/axtrax.html
It's funny and great for Church use. The CD has music, sound effects and 5 voices to choose from. This routine starts out with the puppet so excited they just go nuts singing a song "I'm so excited"....You ask why they are so excited and the puppet makes you guess! You reluctantly go along with the game, guessing this or that incorrectly. The puppet continues to interrupt you by singing the songs a few times, until finally you come to realize they are excited about Easter! Not just the eggs and candy but the true Easter story of Jesus.

For secular shows you can have a bird lay an "Easter egg". There is a bunch of Egg Laying gags a book here...
http://www.axtell.com/routine.html

I have introduced an Easter Egg hunt with a routine where my Gator was wearing "Bunny ears" on a headband. On the tip of his long tail was pinned a Puff Ball representing a bunny tail. Before I got him out I told the audience that I was going to get the Easter Bunny! Then I get the Gator wearing this stuff. I'm suspicious but go into an interview of the Easter Bunny. At the end of the funny routine he confesses that he's not really the easter bunny but he didn't think I would let him come to the Easter Egg Hunt if he was just a Gator. We get the audience to applaud their acceptance and he takes off his fake ears and excitedly asks where the real Easter Bunny is because he wants to eat him... of course he gets rushed away to his case for that!

In church shows, I then talk about the real meaning of Easter, not being Eggs and Bunnies, but about the resurrection of Jesus from the grave... I'll do a Special Effects Board routine with a hill / cave / tomb closed up but then he rises up out of it using the gimmick.

A few ideas for Easter.

Easter routine

For churches, I like to do the resurrection eggs. I have been trying to figure out how to adapt it to a vent routine.

Pesach (yup, that means passover!)

March 24 2009, 10:04 AM

I did a Pesach show last spring here at the Hilton for the family that owns the resort. They flew relatives in from all over the US for a passover getaway party. This time of year is commonly referred to as "the holiday of magic and wonder" by the Jewish community.

I did my regular circus theme show, but added a few routines that featured items related to the holiday. There are several websites online that contain a wealth of info about this topic, and can easily be reached by just typing "Pesach" or "Passover" into your Google search engine. I even found out that there are two different magic sets offered for sale, geared to children, that contain tricks themed around this holiday !

We closed our show with my Axtell book puppet talking us through a recipe for Matzoh Suprise , which was just a standard dove pan cake baking routine. In the end, we produced spring flowers, the joke being we used too much flour. I made a point to learn the pronounciation of the names of the kids who be at this event, as some of the names were a bit difficult when just viewed on paper. The extra attention to details got me a great response, and a nice tip at the end of the night.

Steve
Thank you for the enlighteningment as well as each and everyon who reponded with all that great info but to answer Steve when I refer to mixed marrages I mean Catholic and Jewish and how to explain to kids from mixed marrages why each holiday is different and the same in many ways Like on easter/passover there is EGGS and on Christmas/Chanuka there are lights

Folks, listen to the Californian.
We don't know the denomination of Judaism involved. As an on-line Jewish expert wrote,"we do not recognize the main personalities of Christianity".
I always taught school kids that Jesus was born a Jew and died a Jew and later people such as Paul of Tarsus began to develop a separate religion.
Basically, discussing religion and politics with people not trained in the basics is not worth the hassle.
