I get to spend today entertaining children and their parents... plus a free barbecue and fireworks -- Happy 4th of July -- don't forget the reason we celebrate this day.
Same here. I'll be joining a church in their celebration. No fireworks at that time, but hope to see some tonight.
I have a friend who is going to speak at the prison and wish them a happy independence day.
Let us take a moment of silence for our British brothers who see this as reminder of a great loss.

Today is not just a day to remember the forefathers of our country and its history but to also remember the good deeds the troops are doing for our independence today in far away lands. I will be celebrating at the senior retirement complex with the new Story Teller I just got, he will tell storys of the days in spent just after the war the ended all wars WW1 as well as WW2 Korea and Vietnam... he will talk about how well our troops are doing today. Happy 4th to all, say a prayer for those who have put their lives on the line for our independence.

My band played today for 50,000 people at a Street Festival.... and later for 6,000 people at a big fireworks show. It was a great celebration...

I may be an old curmudgeon, but celebrating Independence Day is, and was, intended to celebrate the birth of this nation as an independent republic.
It was not designed, nor intended, to honor veterans -- Memorial Day and Veteran's Day serve that purpose.
It was intended to remind people of the reasons a small group of colonies decided it was better to face the uncertain future as an independent nation rather than remain subservient to an overdemanding government which was not only far away, but totally uninformed of the challenges of life in a new world.
I'm not saying veterans shouldn't be honored, I am one myself...I am saying let's get our history straight so we celebrate different holidays for the reason they were intended.
Just a grouchy old man voicing his opinion.

Indepencence day is exactly that but I think it should also be another day to remember those who died to continue that way of life.

Benjamin Franklin actually asked that it be set aside as a day of fasting. The purpose was to include God in the celebration.
I don't see the veterans getting as much honor as they deserve on that day.
Now what I'd like to see is Christmas without Santa!
(Just kidding, John.)

I could use some coal. You don't have to get that new stuff either. The older the better! My wife would love a diamond!
