Have you ever LOST your Show?

One of my great fears, lol
I am flying more and more, and with the up coming cruise ships, will be spending MORE time in the air then ever before.
Each time I fly I am a wee bit concerned that my cases will not land in the same airport that I do. Usually, when you land you are whisked off to the hotel, and on stage about 2-3 hours later, up agian in the AM, and off to the airport and HOME. What do you do if you arrive with NO SHOW? There is not a lot of time to find local Vents you can call on....hehehe
I carry Chesters head with me on the plane, worst comes to worst I can insert his stick in a box, and colour a body on it, but I lose all my AXTELL stuff underneath. Thats a over half the content of my set.
Any ideas out there? Steve wants me to buy 2-3 of everything for back up, LOL, thanks for that advice Steve, wink.gif
I look forward to your comments.

NO SHOW>>>What To Do??

June 8 2010, 12:07 PM

There is and old story that Jeff Dunham once told about Jalepino on a Stick who he lost on an airplane before a show and he had to make one out of paper..what does this have to do with your question you might ask? The wise thing to do is to carry your main figure on the plane with you and a soft figure as well, or just the head of the hard figure and a soft figure there is always a way to improvise...

True

I landed in Indiana on a Saturday night with ALL of my stuff going to New York! I needed it the next morning, but they couldn't guarantee it until Tuesday or so! Aaargh! For Sunday morning I got some rope and scissors and did some teaser tricks for that night. Then I dashed off to I-Fest (90 minutes away) where One Way St. allowed me to buy a bunch of stuff and return anything I didn't open, as long as I brought it back on Tuesday or Wed. They were a lifesaver. I grabbed several puppets from their discount table, several magic tricks that I needed extra copies of, a couple of CD's and was ready to go.

I still haven't learned my lesson, however. I still put everything underneath.

Stolen

June 8 2010, 1:36 PM

Once I had EVERYTHING in my van and my van was stolen in downtown Seattle. It was taken for a joyride until it ran out of gas and then abandoned, but none of my stuff was inside. The kicker was that I was scheduled to fly to Hawaii later that week. I called some churches I had been at and one knew of another church that had a stage and puppets. I asked if I could borrow them and they said, "Sure!" So I spent a month in Hawaii doing programs and when I got back my van had been found along with a couple footlockers of puppets and tricks that had been left in an alley. (My name was on the handles since I flew a lot.) I had been praying that they would be found. My pale blue and lime green tuxedos were also found. I had hoped they wouldn't be found!

Priorities

Mark...I think you have your priorities all wrong! Take the Axtell stuff on the plane with you and check the dummy heads in baggage. If you loose them, you still have 90% of your show. Haahaaa.. Ax
