Hello to all, new to vent, except for a Jerry Mahoney doll I got when I was about 6. Pulled the string looked at it, don't know where it went. I am trying again at 65, I promise to talk this time. I am trying to rebuild my Magic Show and I want to add ventriloquism. I am pretty excited about it for an old guy:-)

Thank you for posting, Ed. New posts are catalysts for ideas, routines, or jokes. Glad to hear that you are adding ventriloquism to your magic. If you are new to vent you'll find that memorizing scripts is the toughest part. Do a search for more tips for memorizing scripts but here are a few:
1. Use a familiar song. You already know the song. You could sing it and have the puppet interrupt, or you could sing in a round, or you could change the lyrics to make them humorous. Go without music at first.
2. Keep it conversational. If you were talking to the puppet what would it be likely to say. Avoid a routine that sounds like you are reading from a jokebook. Make it more like a conversation that has funny thoughts.
3. Memorize the outline of the script rather than the words of the script. Example:
It is easy to remember the 5 words above and each one is designed to remind me of that part of the script. For example, if you wrote down the punch line to a joke you would remember the whole joke.
KINK IN THE CHAIN (My favorite joke, by the way.)
Sing??I gotta sing too?

Thank you. I can clear a room singing. I am just rebuilding the magic show, I got rid of some of my best stuff. I have ordered the Maher course so I hope I can get the show together by the first of the year. I have my eye on quite a few Axtell puppets. But money and time, easy as it goes.

Where can I get the Maher course for vent work. And how much is it? I couldn't find it on line. I was told that if I really want to learn the best way, this was the way. And with these awesome Axtell puppets, I'm excited! I did a little as a kid, but I'm 40 now and I need to kick it in high gear.

I believe there are two sources.
email email@example.com to reach Clinton Detweiler. If that does not work then do a search for his name and try another contact to him.

The other source is Tim Cowles, but I could not find his contact.
Steve is right,I am studying everything I can find.
I have recently started the Maher Course, just do a serch on the internet. You also get a Mark Wade DVD with the course, so if you are going to study the course don't buy the 3 DVD pack Mr. D offers, the first one is in the course. Then you can buy the other two.
