I started many years ago with an Axtell Dodo Bird (I'm on my 2nd one now) a regular in my show. After that I bought my son a Dinostar hoping that he would show interest in ventriloquism (he didn't). Next I purchased the Magic Drawing Board. Then at a convention I bought W.T. (Wild Thing) who is another one of my frequent performers. Last, I bought the Big Mouth, my son told me if I would by it he would help me write a routine for it, 2 years later I'm still waiting for the routine LOL. I would love to own 1 of every one of Steve's creations. They're awesome!!

and last but not least, the crowd favorite, Benny Bird, renamed Albie, The Half-albtross Half Peacock Singing wonder!
Not enough!
March 27 2002, 8:55 AM
I have owned:
The Flamingo (which looks good even without a bird arm)
The cockatoo
The Awesome Opossum (who would make a great pack rat coming from inside a back pack with props)
Wild Thing (Loves to offer a birthday kiss at parties, plays Snow White at libraries, etc.)
The Lion (Heat has melted a hole in the latex on his mouth. Any remedies?)
The Bear (I use him twice in every show!)
The skunk (Adults love this once. The only skunk who doesn't smell! She has a cold!)
Next on the list is the baby!

My Axtell Characters Currently
October 7 2006, 3:07 PM
I first got Pedro Parrot (who goes by the name "Crackers")
Then I got the Opposum. He is in every kid's crusade we conduct and the adults really like him. He is probably going to start complaining to me for overworking him.
I also have the All-American Bird. I am still devolping his character but he does make appearances in our programs.
I also have the big Gorrila. I started using him this year with a new program where I do the multiplying bannanas with him. Kid's really love it!
Of course there are several other characters that we would love to aquire in the future. I am convinced that Ax puppets are the best around!
Have a Great Day,

Dusty the Dragon with smoke option, named Meihoo in my shows

Baby Dinostar (2)
Talking Magic Drawing Board (4)
Twinkle Toes the Ostrich
Peanut the Elephant

I have Jo Jo the buzzard
Gizzard(Vincent) the Vulture, I use him at Outreach Big Game dinners,
Cleodis the possum, He's country but tries to rap at the Juvenile detention center.
LooLoo ( wild thing) she flirts with everyone, she likes to drink yoohoo while wearing her tootoo, makes all the guys go woowoo.
Gator the great, I used some of your ideas last sunday. They were great. Everyone loved it when Al (gator) called the preacher up to run around in circles cause he likes fast food.
Also have a white cockateel, Awana kids teach him memory verses cause he is still learning to pronounce words.
I would love to one day have a bear and a turkey.
Great puppets. I never know what they are goin to say next.

memory verses
March 11 2008, 1:57 PM
Here are some verse interpretations for Looloo to consider. (Loved your description of her!)
Rejoice in the Lord anyways and again I say rejoice. Philippians 4:4
For God so loved his only forgotten son... John 3:16
Lord's Prayer: (she repeats incorrectly after you)
Our father
Our father
Which art in heaven
Witches are in heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Halloween is your name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
(pause) Where on earth is the 7-11?
Give us this day our daily bread.
Give us this day our daily pizza. I'm using a modern translation.
Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Forgive us our debts as we forget our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation.
We already know how to find it.
Deliver us from evil.
Deliver us from e-mail.
For thine is the kingdom
and the power
And the glory
forever.
Amen.
and awomen.
very cool
March 11 2008, 7:25 PM
Great stuff, Can I use the Lords prayer? that will be so funny. Sometimes I do Looloo and cleodis on each arm, (what a contrast) with my talking table( I have a foot pedal that operates his mouth),That would be cool.

Lord's Prayer
March 11 2008, 9:07 PM
Please use the Lord's prayer. It is one of my most successful routines. I elaborate on it quite a bit more, but for the bird this repeat should work best.
A Question about the Lord's Prayer
March 12 2008, 12:52 PM
I also love the Lord's prayer routine, but am wondering something. Have you ever had any humor-challenged people say that you are being disrespectful?
Tony Borders
humorless
March 12 2008, 4:50 PM
I have only had one complaint about changing the words for a laugh. It might be a good idea to sing a more serious version of it after the skit.
Products I own
March 12 2008, 8:42 PM
Hi, I own:
-the female Vern Bird with arm (I call her Lola)
-The Happy- Metre (LOVE IT!!!)
-The remote control drawing board.( I'm too scared to take it out much in case it gets broken)
- The Pizza Trick ( haven't tried it yet, any suggestions?)
-The normal Drawing Board (best thing since sliced bread!!!!)
-Newest addition is the baby... anyone got ideas for a good routine?
Tony Borders
Baby
March 13 2008, 10:05 AM
If you don't know how to do the baby cry, Al Good taught me a simple and very effective method. Just say Hoo-EEE! Hoo-EEE! Hoo-EEE!
I told him that sounds like a bunch of hoeey, but he said it really works. I tried it and it does.
I like to call up a dad at a birthday party and tell the birthday child how excited the parents were when the child came into their life. This birthday means that they have loved you for ___ years now and they will always love you. I want to show you what it looked like when you were very little, because you may not remember.
(Then I have the dad stand by my left side facing the audience. I bring out the baby.) This is baby Tarzan.
B: Ah-ah-ah, ah... (tarzan yell)
T: He was raised by gorillas in the jungle. Tarzan.
B: Yes.
T: This is _____ dad. He is going to hold you.
B: (looks at man) He's a stranger.
T: (look at kids) Oh, that's right. I told him to be careful of strangers. Well, Tarzan, I am here with you and I want you to meet ____ dad. He is going to hold you.
B: Otay. (or Okey-dokey)
(Then as I turn and hand him the baby I flip the head so the crying starts. I do that for just a few seconds and then I turn my back to the audience as I turn him back around. I'm now back to the original position.)
T: What's the matter.
B: He's a stranger.
T: But he's going to play the part of your daddy.
B: He doesn't look like my daddy.
T: What did your daddy look like?
B: My daddy was very hairy.
T: Oh, that's right. His dad was a gorilla. (to man) Would you do me a favor? Would you act like a gorilla? (They usually do it.) Boys and girls could you act like gorillas please? There Tarzan. How is that?
B: It's like a family reunion!
T: (I then repeat the apparent hand off and the crying and back to original stance again.) What's the matter?
B: He tickled me.
T: Did you tickle the baby?
B: He's still tickling me.
T: He isn't touching you.
B: Something tickles.
T: Where does it tickle?
B: In my diaper!
T: Excuse me, folks. I need to take care of the baby.
(I usually do this skit last at a birthday party because the baby goes into a suitcase or duffle bag with other puppets and I don't want them to worry about him.)
You can do most of the routine above at any time, just don't mention the birthday part. It's a fun lesson at schools about strangers or at Christmas by having someone play the part of Joseph or Mary.

Hi Tony,
Thank you so much for your advice!!!
I love the idea!!!
I guess I should introduce myself a bit....
I live in Brisbane and have been doing Punch and Judy Shows (Aussie version) for around
5 years now,Mum and Dad back in Europe have been doing them for 30 years!
I love the Axtell products as warm-ups and roving etc.
Unfortunatly I don't have much contact with other Entertainers, so I'm so happy you wrote such a lovely long reply!
The baby is so cool, I'm just always anxious about trying new things I guess.
What;s your favourite?
Thanks, Julia Baker

Let's face it the only people you may joke about today is the Irish. Let's face it..which peoples tells the best jokes about themselves..the Irish and the Jewish peoples.
So a Jew would not find humour in a Jewish prayer developed from Jewish writings by a Jewish rabbi for Jewish people?
Now..the downside of living in those communities is you can be gooned three times on the way to a bathroom in a bar.
One has to be lighting fast to survive.
Don't even ask what those two peoples have been saying about the political affairs which have gone on in front of news conferences in New York State in the last three weeks.
I love it?

I own a variety of puppets, some of which are Axtell and some of which are not. I also own some old-fashioned ventriloquists' dummies. I have a total of 26 figures. As you might expect, my Axtell figures get the best responses from audiences. Great characters.
Anyway, my Axtells are ...
Vern the Bird
American Eagle
Gator the Great
Markie the Talking Marker Board
Vincent Vulture
and
Butch the Bulldog
I have already written scripts for possible future acquisitions, such as Awesome Possum, Corny Crow, Comical Hen, and Neurotic Rat. Lots of fun ahead.

My First Axtell
July 24 2008, 4:21 PM
I've been making my own puppets for more than 35 years. I had desired Axtell products for a while (lusted after them). When the Great Ape Clearance came along, I grabbed a Gorilla. His name is Stopan: Stop-an-GO-rilla. As a children's librarian, I needed something for my Catch the Reading Bug summer shows, so I made construction-paper Monarch butterfly wings that I stapled to (Not to HIM!) his camouflage T-shirt (Sometimes, he's an "urban Go-rilla"). He hides in my prop bag and begs to be in the show because he has six legs (he counts two twice), he has an-five-a (he can't count to ten), he has wings (Of course they're his wings; he made them!), and he knows all the insect jokes on the Internet!
