Okay, I have a better understand now. My 12 year old Elkhound inhales his food like it his last meal and ALWAYS has. I know he would eat a whole 40 lb bag if I let him. If I'm not careful he will eat so fast that he can't breathe. I have tried everything from spreading it on cookie sheets to putting bowls in bowls with nothing working. He throws up to if I'm not watching him. In reading your last post, your girl sounds just like him.
When I feed him, he gets a 1/4 cup at a time in the bowl. He eats it and then has to look at me to make sure he is breathing okay before I give him another 1/4 cup until he is done. You'd think the dog was starving to death! He is NOT allowed to drink any water within an hour of eating or he throws up. And even then I regulate how much he drinks and make him stop or he'll throw up.
Just make her go slow and really monitor and control how she eats. And I agree, you really need to do this to make sure she doesn't have an issue with bloat.
Good luck! | |
