I read all the posts in response to your call for help, and there were some good suggestions. You said that your dog vomits BEFORE meals, right? So, I presume that she is only vomiting up bile and not food? If so, I would mention that my Akitas (I have had three) have done the same thing -- especially my two girl Akitas. I have concluded that their gastric juices really kick up before their meals, which leads to a sour tummy and nausea/vomiting. My solution was to give a little snack about an hour before meals, even something as simple as a small dog cookie or half a piece of bread to tamp down the gastric activity. Obviously, this is tough to do in the morning if the dog is puking before you wake up. What I did (same situation) was to make sure and give a snack immediately before going to bed at night. It seems to work well. On the Pepcid...I had a vet recommend that for one of my dogs once and it was disastrous. Seemed to entirely stop her digestion so that she hurled up her entire meal immediately after eating. Finally, a recommendation on slowing down the eating: turn a bowl upside down in her dish and pour the food around it. It helped to slow down the speed-eating of one of my own dogs. |
