well at least for poor Lexie. The day before Easter she had her 2nd TPLO.  I picked her up on easter morning and it was a really bad day.  She regurgitated all day and was on 5 different medications.  I am happy to say although she is still pretty miserable we are settling down some.  I got a enclosure for the family room so she can hang out and not feel banished to the other room. we are on leash walks for 6 weeks .........that means potty only and right back in the house.

Here is my poor little girl

It's

April 16 2009, 10:04 PM

Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy.............Lexie had a torn cruciate and it is one of the surgeries they do to fix the lameness in the leg.  They cut the tibia bone and rotate the top portion and put a metal plate with 6-8 screws in it.  You have to wait for the bone to heal so they have to be confined for 6 weeks plus.  It changes the angle of where the knee joint meets and allows them to walk again pain free.  She had it done on the other knee last year.  It's become a very common surgery.  It is just a hard and long recovery.

Good Job with the rest! Its so hard to keep them still enough for that to heal properly, and lots of dogs reinjure. You've got a nice setup there! I might have to save that pic for clients in the future!

Thanks:)

Her last one took 12 weeks to heal....at 6 weeks her bone was barely growing back....so this time I am taking every precaution.  We have had nearly no swelling and excess fluid this time.

I bought 2 of those enclosures and put them together.  They will come in handy in the summer for kids and dogs........

Ouchie! Poor thing! Julie, are you letting those dogs have crazy parties while you are away?? wink.gif

I like the set up you have there - I bet she likes being able to be around everyone. You're such a good Mamma!

:( Poor Girl

She has been through so much poor thing:(

She couldn't have it any better though as far as her circumstances go:). Looks like a really comfy place to recoup:).

Keep us posted on her recovery. How long does this take? A few months in the least right?

Hang in there:)

Kathy

Last time...

It was a total of 16 weeks...that seems like an eternity right now.  I am hoping by being a little more diligent we can heal quicker.  I'm already tired..LOL!
