Long Live The King and Queen

It's been some time that I've posted about my two Akitas Saiko (male) and Cali (female). Some may remember my handle from the old forum "way back when."

I lost both of them this summer. I lost Cali at the beginning of the summer to age and Saiko last weekend to a bloat.

Cali's leaving was easier because I had time to prepare and knew it was inevitable. Saiko's leaving has been much harder because it was so sudden (within hours). This is the second dog I've lost to bloat and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Knowing that you dog is bloating and watching helplessly is the hardest thing.

We are not ready for another companion yet but going without the Akita loyalty is something I don't even want to consider.

If anybody is aware of Akita organizations in Connecticut I would appreciate knowing about them because I would like to be involved one way or another.

If any of you live in the Connecticut area and want a pet sitter for a weekend I would offer help. I have a fenced in back yard, huge deck, awning on the deck and air conditioned house. Yes...we've been akita'ized for 11 years.

Thanks for listening.

What a tough time for you. :-(

I'm sorry, but I don't know any groups in Connecticut. You can try this site though, maybe you can find something.

That must be so hard.  I understand not wanting another right away.  You need time to grieve.

I wish we lived closer ...people that know akitas are hard to come by........and having a dog sitter would have been great.  I'm sure you will have no problem finding someone to take you up on your kind offer.

Once again my condolences to you and your family.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I can tell they were very precious to you, and I cant imagine how difficult this was and is for you. Im glad to hear you are still committed to the breed. They just get into your heart and stick!

There is an ACA member club in your area and several akita enthusiasts involved in all aspects of the breed. Maybe they would be good contacts for you.

Hope that helps. Thinking of you.
