Mustang Wings

I am looking for a definitive answer to a question on the wings of the Mustang - specifically the differences between the B/C models and the D and later models.

My understanding is that the D Pony had it's wing strengthened and thickened. This was for more structural strength, but also to allow 3 x .50s in each wing, mounted straight up and down, as opposed to the canted 2 x .50s per wing of the B/C's that caused some jamming problems.

I have recently been told that this is not true, that the wing remained essentially unchanged for all Mustangs.

Can anybody point me to a reliable reference to educate myself? I really appreciate it.

Thanks

PS I am guessing that comparing my 2 Tamiya Mustangs is NOT a credible reference!
