Response to Probably be black too..

VMFA-513's flat black paintjobs were applied over the standard finish at the field maintenance level. The inside of gear bays, gear doors and wing folds would not have been painted, except by overspray (assuming the black was not brush-applied). Landing gear legs and wheels would have been left in whatever finish the airframe carried from its last IRAN.
Since sortie assignments took priority, airframes may have flown for a short time in incomplete black/red markings. There is even the possibility that the bottoms of the rear horizontal stabilizers, and maybe even portions of the rear fuselage bottom surfaces, may have been left in GSB (at least initially).
Interesting story about the removable black paint; it wasn't. It also wasn't particularly durable, leading to some pretty ratty-looking airframes. On the Douglas F3Ds, the black paint even had a tendency to lift the underlying GSB.
