Response to Eduard 1:48 109E landing gear caution

As I'm just about ready to get the gear on, I decided to investigate the "long gear legs" as reported on the Airfix kit. From photos, it does appear to be on tip-toes when installed without any mods, but the gear legs line up almost perfectly with those from other Emil kits. So why the problem?

When you look at the lower wing, I think the answer becomes clear... Airfix beefed up the inner gear well structure to give a more sturdy mounting surface for the gear legs, but in doing so, they actually LOWERED the mounting point for the gear legs further down than where they should be on the real aircraft. The fix is to scrub away the "plate" looking area where the gear mount pin fits, and that should square it away perfectly. I'm in the midst of this project and will report back.

Lynn
