Response to good to know

The Iwata side cup, looks like but actually isn't a gravity feed cup. It's a siphon feed in which there is a small orifice that that runs from the bottom of the cup to the stem which interfaces with the airbrush. In order to clean it, the bottom of the cup has a threaded bottom or cap that has to be removed. There is also a flat seal that can be easily lost that lays across the bottom inside the bottom cap.

It's a nice piece of engineering actually but as others have said, it's a pain to clean. The purpose of the Eclipse SBS and the side cup design is not really for model building or even paint for that matter. It's intended customer is the media artist that shoots inks rather than paint. Inks have a much lower viscosity than that of paint. Therefore not only can it flow better through very small needle/fluid nozzle combination (.2mm or smaller) than that of paint, it is easier to clean as well. In the case of the color cup, ink can more readily be flushed out of it with the proper cleaning agent without removing the bottom cap. Where as paint removing the bottom cap to ensure it's clean is almost imperative.

Prior to purchasing my first Grex airbrush I too used the Iwata Eclipse SBS and never used the color cup that came with it. The combination of the Aztek color cups made for a near perfect set up for me until Grex came along.

I believe in god and the only thing that scares me,,,,,,is Keyser Soze.
