Response to Bf 109E-4/7 Research Time Gents...need a opinion

Don, you think about this stuff as much as I do. There isn't much contrast on the wing, suggesting 70/71, but it is an E4 or E7, at least judging from the square canopy. The spine of the fuselage looks to be mostly 02, with some 71 sprayed on the very front of the cowling in back of the prop. It is very hard to tell in this photo. One would expect an E4 built in late 1940 to be 71/02/65. The lines on the side of the fuselage look about the same tone as the back of the prop blades suggesting they are probably 70. The spots look to me to be 02. The horizontal tail plane is interesting though as it appears to be all one color (02 to my eye) with the elevators done in the same line/spot camo. With that said, I'd paint undersides 65, I would probably do the wings in 70/71 or 71/02, paint the spine and horz. tailplanes 02, then paint the camo on the sides with 70 for the stripes, 02 for the dots. Do you know the approx. date for the photo? If you do a paint job and find out it is wrong later, that will give you the excuse to build it again........ I don't think you need much convincing to build another 109 anyway, do you? So choose a color and let's see the results. I will expect to see this model at the Cincy show later this year.
