Response to Why Airfix you guys??

I don't take offence at your post, but every Airfix modeller will have their own personal reasons for having a special bond with the name.

As a Commonwealth modeller I started in the late 50s with Airfix kits and it's just reassuring to have Airfix beside me still, an unbroken connection for more than 50 years. None of the other brands around when I began are still identifiably with us. Only Revell comes closest.

Airfix just gets better every time now. Yes those basic kits of the 60s and 70s were endlessly re-popped through the 80s, 90s and right up till Hornby acquired the brand and started to treat the brand seriously and tooled some new subjects.

The highly detailed kits are nice of course but sometimes it's also nice to refresh your own modelling skills with something a bit less fussy but still worth doing ( and substantially cheaper than those kits with frills).

Airfix was there when I started, I have several Airfix kits in the stash not least that awesome 1/24th scale D.H. Mosquito and Airfix kits will be with me right to the very end. That's reassuring. To people raised on Airfix the name is more than just a brand- it represents the whole world of models and modelling.

Cheers
