Response to Why Airfix you guys??

Many already touched on above but I'll reiterate:

the challenge and joy of taking a kit that costs a fraction of the
"shake the box and out it comes" variety of newer kits and exercising basic (yes, and sometimes very advanced) modelling skills to produce
something that, while not a rivet-for-rivet replica, still looks nice.

I advise you to search for some of Mike Grant's works of Airfix kits,
many of which were in the recent series "Circuits & Bumps" in
Scale Aviation Modeller International. His end results did not involve
exceedingly difficult techniques, just tested and well practiced techniques, and his results speak for themselves.

The same things can apply to many other older and Eastern European manufacturers kits, such as Matchbox and earlier Monogram and Revell.

The bottom line is the enjoyment the builder gets out his/her accomplishment with what he has to work with.
