I just think that your approach is entirely misguided. First, there are many reasons why people still build and wiill continue to build airfix.
As ststed by many here and others elsewwere, It is really complex and personal for many of us who choose to build airfix.
I build airfix because it is still the only brand to have link to the classic era of UK model companies.
Second, It is an excellent value for the dollar. It is not a wunderkit and therefore does not have a wunderprice with it.
Third, The range of airfix is truly breathtaking. I have built many models also. I am not an expert builder, in fact I struggle to build kits due to my cerebral palsy, which makes every build an adventure because I never know what I will be able to build at what level of quality. I have been building models since 1972, So I can tell you about the real golden age of modeling where you could buy kits at any mom and pop store in the nation.
Fourth Ben, like any modeler, we like a challenge and it is a challenge to build some of these older kits.
Airfix is a very touchy subject here on this forum. Many " experts " deride and condemm airfix and its followers. The divsion between modelers here has led to the group build here. The " experts " don't like to be shown up by airfix experten when they deride airfix only to find that the many worldwide defenders of the brand will rally to its defense. I'm aware of the shortcomings of some of the older kits and marvel at the effort to correct them. The newer kits are great and I am sure you will find them to be great value. Not everyone can afford Tamigawa or trumpeter. Heve you seen the prices on those kits ?
In the future, as airfix comes out with newer kits and replaces older molds, the tables will change and the question may become, why build tamigawa when you can have a fantastic airfix kit at half the price.
