Response to Sincerely, you don't: If you're a first time user take care! It is all because of ....

First, we'll leavee the debate about what Hu.30 actually represents to another day. Except to say that later this year, Humbrol are bring out a new version of RAF WW2 Dark Green, so they themselves coan't be happy with the current shade. And on recent new-tool and re-released kits, Airfix have started recommending Hu.116 or Hu.163 + matt varnish for the colour.

Second, yes, in the late 1990s, quality control did go down the pan, and tinlets labelled 'Super Enamel' are worth avoiding, though I've had plenty which were described as matt, and actually dried matt, as well as quite a ffew that didn't.

But Humbrol stopped making paints to this forula over 10 years ago, and very few indeed now remain on LHS paint racks.

Although there are occasional exceptions, the problem of matt Humbrol paints not drying matt is now very rare. Also, Humbrol isn't the only paintrange where this happens - I've had it happen with Revell, Tamiya and Model Master paints over the years.

One thing you must do with all Humbrol enamels, though, is to stir them really, really, thoroughly, so that the pigment at the bottom of the tin and the carrier liquid at the top are thoroughly mixed together. When you think they're mixed together enough, do it again. Twice. In my experience, the problem of Humbrol paints not drying matt when they're suposed to is almost always due to them not being sufficiently mixed.

Cheers,

Chris.
