...they set a number they need to sell to recoup the investment and once they sell that, everything else is gravy. The goal is not to bury the competition or to eat into someone else's market share. I'm sure ZM praises Tamiya's kit as the bar-raising example of model kit engineering that it is. Volks, the company that ZM is connected with, continues to sell Tamiya kits. They offer a unique alternative to other P-51 kits on the market. I'm with you, I'd never buy one, but I don't question their logic. They've made it clear that these are the types of kits they intend to make and continue making. Smaller niche companies like Zoukei-Mura and Wingnut Wings are probably the way the hobby industry is heading in the future, at least as far as start-up companies are concerned.
