Response to B314 and Future update

Alan,
One thing you might want to consider on your next NM project is to sequence out you painting so as not to overcoat everything therefore rendering everything with the same gloss/flat finish. It may seem a bit difficult, but you might find the results worth the effort. Perhaps get your metal areas the way you want them first. With the 314, it seems they went through several iterations. Underside of the hull black, over-sprayed with silver dope and later appearing to look almost dull natural metal, with deicer boots, without deicer boots...etc. Nevertheless, there is always a difference in texture and reflectance between the basic surface of the airframe and the areas that were painted. It can be a bit nebulous and subtle, but it is characteristic mostly overlooked. That way, your anti-glare surface can be very flat while you still have that sheen on your metal surfaces.

When I did my 314, I used the original Alclad (very different from the current product). After the paint went down, I scribed the entire airframe, and then added the marking. Nothing was over-coated and everything still looks the same as the day I finished it.

Maybe just something to think about for your next one. Good luck on your project.
Paul
